How `bout a - Model Boat Mayhem - gathering?
« on: August 29, 2006, 07:59:42 am »

Hello to all the mates and members of this wonderfull forum here. Just had an idea and I wonder what you think about that:

How about a meeting next year, somewhere in the UK on a pond- just for a weekend. Probably a wonderfull scene to mix up, do what we knows best (having some chats and boating). Would be a nice opportunity to name a face to a person.
Or was it just a pipe-dream?
The only trouble is that I can not take care about that matter, as living in the Southwest of Germany it would be a long ride for the most of you if I invite you to my local pond..... ::)

Would like to know what you think about that anyway!

.... sounds good to me - depends where the venue is though (don't usually pass through Southern Germany in the course of a normal week!  ;D )

Might have to give both a miss as its even further from Tasmania, and a mite expensive for a weekend, but I do really like the idea and if you do do it take plenty of pics and add names then post so all can see who is who...

What would be the collective noun for such a gathering.

A "wash" of Mayhemers ??

Hello,   First can I thank  the organisers, traders who made me welcome at the epic Centre, the public who bought off me, miniature bits and pieces.  (Hazel  aka  Mrs. JayDee)

About the " Mayhem Gathering".
Just a few points to think about,

1. In the Midlands.

2. Big open Lake, a Boat Club's if possible.

3. Facilitys at the Lake side, food , toilets, shelter.

4. Nearby Hotel, Travel Lodge, or similar.

5. Easy access and Free  Parking.

6. What Date?.

7. Who will sort it all out?. An event like this takes time to organise.

I organise an annual  "Gathering ", British Miniaturists Weekend, in Walsall, a full weekend, full Board, in a Hotel, for around 120 people, at £135 each!.  The next one in 2007 - 16th to 18th February is the 7th Annual weekend. ( http://www.minis4all.com) for dolls house miniaturists.
There are Workshops ( £'s extra)  all day,  in the evenings there are Mini-workshops and demonstations and of course lots of joking and laughter along with Tutor/trader stands which is a mini fair in all but name.
Americans, Canadians, Irish, Swedish, Dutch, Germans and all over the UK are among the folk who attend.
Members  who attend never stop smiling all the weekend, like minded people, doing the things they like doing, in the company of other people, the event cannot fail !.
I have been asked many times, can I do a full week, instead of just the weekend !   NO!!!

I already have some ideas with looking around for venues for my own group, but miniaturists don't need a lake.

Watch this space...Hazel Dowd.   BTW  John is asleep in the chair!!!

yep.....

Tamworth - YEP

Grey Navy Day - YEP (but we'd also have to have some kind of tug event(?) and the other stuff to suit the rest of the gang's interests (?)

Gathering Weekend (As per Mrs. JayDee) - YEP (Sounds excellent)

Mini-workshops/experts/demos ( =trade???) - YEP (even better!)

All of the above sounds great with me - you can count me in, be a good weekend out and about!  ;)

Cheers, Brian

Perhaps we ought to make ourselves recognisable to each other at the shows we do go to by having a "Mayhem" badge.  I am sure that Martin could give us permission to use his logo (the blue wavy one at the top of the page) as a basis for a laminated badge.

If we had events...then any prizes would have to be from sponsers..unless some kind and mad folk  donate them...or..a small reg fee for those taking part.

As Bob said, someone needs to volunteer to organise this - i.e. in the early stages get a rough headcount, assess viability and then look at the do we/don't we's (trade/competitions/events/demos) to take demos just as an example, I can think of at least 3 interesting (basic) workshop/demo categories off the top of my head - airbrushing, soldering, electrics perhaps just for starters, never mind submarine technology and the basics of model yachting - I could go on - or maybe thats not what is wanted, just a big sail in and get together.  :-\

Anyway it all sounds like a really good plan - be good if it all could come together? Just remembered that it was Jorg's idea.... is there any chance of you attending Jorg??

The navy day was organised by the Kingsbury Club, we decided that it would be a free sailing event, it was a pleasent day, every one stud about and talked and sailed with no pressure of competition,  ;D ;D

Should we volunteer to organise it all I ask myself If you are still looking for a volunteer that is
however couple of things to note getting the traders and workshops in an outdoor setting is difficult and expensive PLI etc potential damage stock and so on and getting the date right to avoid clashes   with the great British weather to contend with its even more difficult, it would need to have an indoors as well and a big one at that, there is a such a venue in the midlands (not the NEC) however another area would be,  is that north enough bearing in mind those in Scotland how about simply tagging it to a show, yes what started off as a get together then gained a lot of other items clubs, traders, workshops, and so on. Hopefully these other suggestions are not hijacking the original simple idea which was good If you want all the others it would be a lot easier to tag it to a show in running.
Yes it’s a good idea the things above are just me thinking out loud bearing in mind what has been suggested already
