Hi Everyone,
Oiler, thank you for you kind compliments. If you a thinking of using one of our Vertical boilers I would like to point something out before you buy a hull. The Belmont and Cambria Vertical boilers both share the same main pressure vessel. The main pressure vessel on these boilers are about the same height as the main pressure vessels on the Cheddar Puffin Vertical boilers. The diameter of the Belmont/Cambria boilers is a little bit larger though. I believe the Puffin boilers are about 3 1/2" in diameter and the Belmont is 3 3/4" in diameter. The internal components in both the Belmont and Cambria Verticals are a bit more complex than the Puffins are, so this adds a bit more weight to them as well as the extra water capacity will.
I have a Krick Victoria that I am in the early stages of building which will have a Heron Vertical steam plant installed in it, but I am not building it like the kit intends you too. I have moved the steam plant more towards the center of the hull. Although the Heron Vertical fits really well in the model Victoria's intended location which is farther forward towards the bow, I feel it might be too heavy mounted in this location requiring additional ballast to be added to the aft section to counter balance the steam plant in the front of the model.
The Krick Borkum however would be a perfect fit just the way it is for one of our Vertical Heron, Sparrow or Mobius steam plants.
The Kingston Moldings hull, the Thames River Launch Duncan is a beautiful model when finished. Just last week for the fun of it one of our local model boat club members brought us a superbly finished model of the Duncan and we placed a Vertical Heron steam plant into it. The model looked absolutely great with the steam plant in it but again it seemed a bit heavy in the bow for this particular boat. I was concerned that the model would be a little bit tender on stability in the water on windy days.
I have attached some photo's of the Duncan with the Heron plant simply just set into the Hull.
Hope that this has helped a little.
Best Regards,
Nick
