I'm trying to find out who actually owns the moulds and sells the submarine kits that John Darnell used to sell, so far I've found that Metcalf Mouldings and OTW Designs say that they own and sell these kits.

Anyone know for sure who does actually sell the things? In particular the X-craft?

The listings on the Models by Design site seem to be just a copy of what is on the Metcalf site. The first listing, for the 50ft Steam Picket boat which interests me is word for word with the Metcalf listing. Anybody knows what gives, are they one and the same business or is one just an agent for the other? Both make out that they are the manufacturer but Metcalfs have been around for a while. They were Martins Models a while ago.
They got sold via Model Slipway to D. Metcalf, then on to Models by Design.

Does this mean that Metcalfs do not do these models any more? Their website still seems to be active. I do not mind who I get it from, especially as Metcalfs were reluctant to export the larger models. Cheers, Ian

As I understand, Dave Metcalf sold the manufacturing rights for some of his hulls etc. a while ago, retaining his kits business.  I'm not sure of the details, but it was publicised at the time.

It may well be that Models By Design were the buyer, and that they and Dave have a joint marketing agreement of some sort?

My understanding is models by design have taken over from metcalf, or thats what they told me on the phone.  I ordered a hull throught he metcalf website and they forwarded the order onto models by design who then called me up. 

All the hulls metcalf did are on the models by design site and so are the kits they used to do + alot more of interesting looking things.

I do stand to be corrected here but im quite confident in what i just said ::)

you are totally correct ther, garabaldy.indeed dave has sold all of his hull moulds to m by d and has retained those models which he markets himself as kits.
