Hinged masts.........
« on: September 26, 2008, 04:03:25 pm »

Dunno if anyone has thought of ,or done, this ..............Spectacle frames have a good strong hinge, and some actually lock in to place when opened,or 'spring' open ,so I think that using the hinge part on the base of a mast ,would allow it to be folded down for transort,eg on a tug . I know that they wont be any good for sail boats ,but any cosmetic masts ,or even davits should be ok! Just my 2p.............

I usually have to replace my specs (at exorbitant prices) because they break at the b^%^*y hinge!

       ...Hi Guys...

I made a folding mast on my "SCOTCH POWER" tug model using McFlurry Spoons from McDonalds...

One spoon is cut & formed into a Tabernacle & another spoon is slid over it to form thebase of the mast...

A slot is cut down the centre of the Tabernacle & a hole is drilled in the Mast...The back is cut out of the Base of the mast & a bolt is inserted through the hole & the slot...If you then lift the mast up the Tabernacle it can then be folded back...

A very Cheap & Cheerful way to do this...
This picture shows the mast in the Upright position

...Best Regards...Norry...
