a great little starter kit, which you can sometimes pick up on ebay or other sites for around that price is either the Garnoch or the Ryhope, both from Caldercraft range, and can both still be bought new from westbourne models, the Garnoch is still under 100notes although the Ryhope is now at £155.
However they do come up now and then on ebay.
But great little starter models with plenty of charactor.
There is alto the caldercraft Joffre tug anf that comes up on the fleebay site as well.

Squirrel, look no further than the Springer pages . Budget boat, stable at sea in rough weather ! Any style you fancy above the deck level . Easy to build. Have you contacted any of the local model boat clubs ? They might have some surplus second hand models for sale and a LOT of advice.

You could try this from Homes: http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/RadioControl/viewProduct.php?ProdID=2945

Buy some proper radio and speed control equipment rather than the junk it comes with and you ought to have a nice boat. Some detail and figures would be worth it too.

Alternativly, you could build this harbour boat in your budget: http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/RadioControl/viewProduct.php?ProdID=1035

or if you squeeze the budget a bit: http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/RadioControl/viewProduct.php?ProdID=1036

Finally, if you can persade George Turner to make some more kits, I made a nice little workboat from one of his ten-quid wonders: http://philsworkbench.blogspot.com/search/label/Tomsk but he's given up boats so you'll need to see if there are any leftovers.

Hi Squirrel & welcome.

Having built a couple of kits I decided I wanted a springer these have to be scratch built but they are dead easy for a beginner.
Especially with all the info and help you will get here.

Cost wise you will get everything including R/C well within your budget.
