New member - Richelieu in 1:200
« on: November 07, 2008, 05:44:19 am »

Hi to All,

I have just joined because here in my retirement, I am into my very first (scratchbuild) project - the Richelieu in scale 1/200 - never even done plastic kits before.

So far I have finished the hull, the three planked decks, the main and secondary armament, and most of the superstructure.

Unfortunately, I am finding my enthusiasm decreasing rapidly with the decreasing size of the parts/fittings, so I hope to find new inspiration on this website.

I have already skimmed some of the threads, and it seems there is plenty of experience available in this forum to benefit from.

Cheers .... Poul

Don't worry Poul, we have all been there at some time or another and we all have plenty of projects in various stages of completion in our workshops.

One thing to consider is to have a break and make another much smaller project that is relatively easy to build so you get a bit of a quick fix of satisfaction to boost your enthusiasm.  Try a small plastic model or a small kit or even buy something ready made that needs some modification or restoration that you can do relatively easily.  I think you need to get something on the water to give you a bit of a buzz again.

My current project has been on the go steadily now for nearly five years and there are at least another two to go, possibly more, so I built myself a plastic model and converted it to RC just to renew my enthusiasm.

You also need to remind yourself how much work you have put into it so far that you don't want to waste so you need to regain your enthusiasm somehow.

This is where the RTR craft (such as the Graupner Southampton) would fit the bill. On the water in minutes, and would bring back the 'buzz'. Sailing, and socialising with other club members, whilst the main build project progresses in the workshop.

This is a situation which many of us have been through, in the past.

Good Luck with the project, Tony.
