What models have you built, most enjoyed, most proud off? Why?
« on: November 30, 2008, 01:55:28 pm »

What models have you built?
What model are you most proud of?
What boat do you enjoy the most?
And why?

I've built a few: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/My_models/0index.htm
Ones I'm most proud of is Jan's Puffer (actually looked like the picture on the box!),
 Wellard (I did some "engineering!")
 &  Fastelight (freelance imagineering!).

Ones I've had the most fun with .... Graupner Arrow (took so long to sort the problems out),
  Raving Mad (Fast, stable, reliable).

What about you?

So far i have...
Semi Scale Sun XXVI, i just started with a GF hull and went from there
Tigger: Standard Springer
Templeton: Standard Springer
Scoot: Super Springer
ST 695: WWII 'Angels Gate' scale tug
Mustang Sally:  :o :o :o Springer
Red Oktober: Sub Standard Springer (Currently on a World tour)
WW (Douglas Corrigan): Super Regnirps (Backwards Springer)
Aerokits Sea Nymph: Huntress
Aerokits Sea Hornet: Bournville Plain
'd'O': Outboard Standard Springer
.. and an almost complete jet drive Super Springer... 'Proteus'

The one i am most 'proud' of has to be 'Bournville Plain'. Its a 'replacement' for a boat my Father built in the 1960's.. but i had to sell it whan i moved to the USA.

The one that is the most fun has to be 'Scoot'.... Several award winning navigation runs and... its just FUN to run!..  O0

Here's what I have:
Graupner Neptun x2
Graupner Sydney Star
Graupner Elmshorn/Brake tug
Southampton RTR modified
3xUniversity club, (one parts bin, one modified with lights and 40mhz radio, one stock)
Robbe najade
Nichimo yamato
RV Nord Icelandia

The one that has given me the most enjoyment in construction is the Nord Icelandia, especially as its so changable.  on the water, Celestia and Nord Icelandia give me the most pleasure.

Have built a lot of different ones over the years, and was and still am proud of them all.
But I think the one I am most proud of was the prototype model I designed and built of the Anne Lettitia Russell, the 41' Watson which I kitted or a short while before Metcalf Mouldings continued to produce.
It gives me a buzz every time I see one at a show. %) ;D O0

Well Martin I can see that we have at least one model in common, Cesa! ( see my signature pic).  :-))
Other model boats I have are an RAF rescue launch built from a frog kit in 1968 and still running, though converted to electric drive with speed 700 motor and 12 cells.
A Lorena, a Vic Smeed design, 42inch long built from a plan in 1969, also converted to run on 12 cells but with MFA 850 motor.
Voyager yacht.
Wee Nip, this small yacht is the cats pyjamas :-)).
In the 70's I built a variety of multi-racing boats and competed with modest success in Scotland. None of these multi boats survive.

I've built several models but my favourite is still my Metcalf Models tug yacht, Pigeon Pie

1:12 scale and I'm really chuffed with the way she looks on the water. The boat took more effort and time than anything I've done since but I just love the look of her and throughly enjoy sailing her. There is no better looking model vessel ever built - FACT.

Built: Banckert, Brave Borderer, Grand Banks Schooner, Pen Duick, Riva Aquarama, Steam Drifter, 2 Springers, renovated hydrofoil, fast electric mono, Skitzo - a small electric hydro.

Most proud of: Steam Drifter/ Riva

Enjoy most: Springers - they are good fun and can withstand a bit of bashing about

I've built 3 kits, a Model Slipway "Sentinel", an Artesania "Amsterdam" and a Billing "Nordkap", as well as a number of scratch built boats. So far, the one I've most enjoyed building, and of which I'm most proud, is my "Nordkap", mainly because it was my first plank on frame build, and also I think it just looks nice  :-)
