U-33

Yes mate built one sailed it then pulled it apart and built it correctly,
in my opinion and several others who have them over here they are
poorly made parts and out of shape as well, but when modified it
then performs and looks quite well.............

I had one that had been stripped and rebuilt it was a good wee sub.
The main thing differant was that a auto level had been fitted to the rear planes and
the mast thing to make it "surface" had been removed.

Thanks gents,

I'd planned to remove that weird automatic surfacing mast device and use three servos, one of them on the front vanes, never considered an auto leveller on the rear one though...interesting, that.

A totally different paint job, modified deck and sail, and it could be a useful addition to the fleet.

Any more with any more?

Not a finished design in my opinion, clever in some places but stupid in others eg. the nose
and tail cone are very hard to fabricate into the correct shape, no external on/off switch,
There is a Mk II kit... what the differences with the original?

This is my one, modified with operational front planes.....

Thanks for that Martin, several people have said the same about the kit(the mark 1 version) I believe the differences between the two kits is limited to minor additions to the kit itself and the inclusion of the motor, that's about all.
No external on/off switch you say? Now that's strange...must do some more research methinks.

But...does it work any sense?

Fit a magnetic relay switch. You can purchase one ready made from Engel, or make one yourself with a pair of reed switches, a bi-stable/latching relay and a decent permanent magnet.

That sounds pretty reasonable Andy...but does the boat work any sense? Not with that silly auto system thing, but with operating front vanes.

Yes, they work well with front operating vanes.

Personally I wouldn't fit the vanes on the tower , they'll just fight what the front vanes are doing.

Fear not Andy, it won't be having the supplied tower, I have another ready made sail standing by to go on it...one without dive vanes.
A different sail, some subtle weathering Steve Neill style, and a paint scheme as per the Trafalgar boats when they had the camo pattern applied and it should look half decent....ish.
