scale steering competition
« on: September 18, 2006, 09:33:37 pm »

Hi i was wondering if anyone knew how the scale steering went at featherstone on sunday, as I could only attend on the saturday for the ship handling finals. I was also able to put a face to Aston, it was good to put a face to the posts apparently there's quite a few. Hope someone can give me some info as i can't get through my normal routes,

         thanks      Steve

Hi Steve,

can't remember all the placings, but can remember all the winners and some of the others,  so from 48 entries

Exact Scale
1st Ron Swinden         Dewsbury            Hms Tyne
2nd Trevor Shaw        Leeds & Bradford  Flamborian

Semi Scale
1st Roy Whitton         Huddersfield          Smit Zweden (22" version)

Kit class
1st Jim Wilson            Huddersfield         RNLB Alice Upjohn ( Metcalf Mouldings Kit)

Navigation
1st  Me  ::) ::)           Huddersfield         RNLB Inner Wheel ( Brede Class Lifeboat)

Junior
1st Jim Beecroft  (12) Huddersfield        Tiddy  ( Tid Tug  ::) )  with TWO CLEAR ROUNDS  :o :o
2nd Anthony Leslie     Huddersfield        HMS Ashanti
3rd Jim Beecroft         Huddersfield       Ella,  (Midwest Models Lobster boat)

Best Craftsmanship  Roy Whitton         Huddersfield          Smit Zweden  ( voted for by Judges)

Best in Show         Roy Whitton         Huddersfield          Smit Zweden   ( voted for by competitors)

add that lot to the Norther Area Championship prizes handed out earlier in the day and Roy Whitton needed a van to get his trophies home - and deservedly so.  I don't think one club has ever landed so many firsts at a National Finals before - only missing out on exact because we had no member entered- though Dewsbury and Huddersfield share the same water, so Ron is virtually an adopted member  ;)

Cheers

of the 48 entries. we (Huddersfield) only had two other club members taking part.  The 2nd and 3rd places in the classes where we didn't have members placed I confess to not taking a close note of, I was too gobsmacked when I finally won Navigation after being 2nd, 3rd or 4th with a variety of boats for the last FOUR YEARS.

I do remember places being taken by Leeds & Bradford, Blackburn, and Featherstone clubs, but don't know the names of the clubs of the "Non Northern" competitors

Thanks Aston and well done to you all, I hope the weather was as calm as it was on the saturday when we, from the Ellesmereport, came away with a great first place too (not blowing my own trumpet honest). Again well done and maybe see you at Ellesmereport for the mmm tug tow finals this sunday. (not a plug honest he he !!)

Thanks for the info
