Summer has gone...- what now?
« on: September 19, 2006, 07:34:48 am »

O.K.- it looks like summer has gone. It`s raining cats and dogs, the days become shorter and it`s getting dark at about 20.00. Time to think about the winter-job. The GOGSWAS returns to the safe and warm sheds/workshops. What`s your most wanted model for the winter season? I`ll carry on with my Sir Lancelot- how about you?

hi i recently finnished my 1st sail boat build from plans i received off the net of the luna rosa,i scaled her down a bit to 34 " long mast is 44 inches high from deck and she sails great.i made everything myself only thing i bought was the radio gear.cost me very little id say about £40 not including radio gear.ive allready started my next project from plansa boat called the pea pod apparently this boat was aimed at beginers some 20 to 30 yrs ago and its an all plywood build but im using correx and glass cloth.from all accounts they sail very good ,even better than similar boats in the same class.heres a pic of the luna rosa(ellie jade) renamed her after my daughter lol. and another of my pea pod build.if anyone wants the plans ill gladly send a copy of either in pdf format. also attached is a cpl of pics of the pea pod the guy who sent me the plans built!!. shes 36 inches long 15 inches wide and the mast is six ft from the  deck.once this ones done im thinking about a pt boat for my son with maybe a petrol strimmer engine inside .

Summer gone ???

I got sunburnt at the pond on Sunday (Perterborough UK) 8) and the forecast is for temperatures in the 80s.  :o

However, I must finish the Model Slipway Sentinel before next spring. Why is it that now I'm retired I seem to get less building done than when I was working. Putting down the crossword would help I suppose :-[

Happy building

Doug

PS I do try and sail every week even through the winter - worked so far

The rallying season is over. I've just got to get my 1933 Austin 7 through its MOT test, then it's back to some serious modelling during the cold days and dark nights. Might even get back to Torpedo Boat No 80!

Far TOO much is the simple answer to the original question! As Bob says - gulp!  :o But then what's new?

I've just added to the Model Slipway job that i was quite happily (albeit slowly!) working away on a month or so ago, with a Revell VII submarine kit - with all its attendant probs to understand and overcome, a Dean's Manxman (which is absolutely mega!) a Robbe Schuetze kit on its way in the post.... and if that wasn't enough, have just a few days ago taken on a Dean's Cossack which is part completed but needs a lot of cleaning and tidying up, some re-working of parts already fitted(!), an extensive re-paint, lots of re-fitting and still loads to do after all that, to arrive at completion - so quite a big job in itself - and as it is currently straddled across the last available bit of space on my dining table, I need to get on and make some headway with it asap (all the other prime locations in the house for giant boxes and model boats over 36" in length, are currently taken!) - it should keep me busy for quite some weeks ahead!  ::)

So I must be crazy....  ;D Well, I certainly ain't buying anything else this year!

Jorg, Thats a lot of stuff to be going on with! You certainly make me feel better about the models I have to build! Can I ask which HMS Black Prince and HMS Swift?? Are these the WWI Armoured Cruiser and the Destroyer? Cheers, Brian

Brian, you`re damned right. Black Prince ist the WW1 cruiser and the Swift is the destroyer. Want to do them scratch, though Roy is pretty right that I will be retired when I have finished...

Martno- thanks for the offer to help- I still wonder how to place you in my workshop (twice the space of a Sauna-towel)  :D

Now I have to solve two major problems:

Still need a wife with a 6-figure income and 3 lifetimes to do all the models waiting for treatment.
B.t.w- I know some women with 6 figures.........- but this is depending which diets they are on (34,36,38,40,42,44)....  ;D

Jorg,

Its just that HMS Swift really does it for me! I've asked Ron Dean a few times, hoping that he will consider adding this excellent vessel to his range and he gave me the impression that he just may do that!
I doubt that i could scratch build it (I got the plans for the four stacker M Class - HMS Mansfield (my home town - amber and blue - the mighty Stags!  ::)) which I may attempt one of these days - if like you there are a few more years left for me yet - or I make the acquaintance of a rich widow first - who likes model boats!!  ;D) - but all power to you though, I would love to see the results, so let me know when you make a start.... What scale are you doing her to?

Cheers, Brian
