Would like to know if you can use a proportional Switches (dials ) to control ESC for a bow thruster?

I second shipmate60's reply as I do use a proportional control on my BT via its ESC which gives a more realistic control and therefore a better control of the vessel IMHO

you can put the esc in any channel you like, though a non proportional, (on/0ff) may not give you what you want), I have ran Celestia on channel 6 of my 6EXA set when double-handling at epic 2006.

yes I had turned off the bow thrusters of Celestia, shifted the rudder to ch1, and put yamato on ch2,3 and 4 and had both boats in the water together

Proportional switches?
Isn't that a bit of a contradiction in terms?

I know, know... clever sod, aren't I. But what do you expect? I've got an ulcer, a trapped nerve in me spine, a kidney infection (ouch!), a near-depleted bank account, a model boat possessed by Beelzebub, Steamboat Phil waiting and waiting to help some more with that dial (bless 'im), pressure on top of pressure and an RC transmitter with more proportional channels than I can shake a stick at.

Sigh...
Who'd be I!

James (First Tug) has sought my advice elsewhere, but I have no first-hand experience of the model in question. It's pretty much unique in the way it's operated, as far as I can see.
He is contemplating how to control his new Tito Neri and wants to have independent steering of both thrusters AND a separate bow thruster.  His problem is that he would tie up both of the main sticks (side-to-side) with the Azimuth drives and so would  have to resort to other measures to control the thruster.
I have read up on this model - I even bought the Traplet Book of Tugs - and I get the impression that a bow thruster is unnecessary with such a set-up. I think James would appreciate some input from TN owners before he decides which radio he is going to purchase. Don't forget it has to be 72MHz or 2.4GHz, chaps!
I shall leave the floor to your good selves.............

As a T N owner opperator I would say that if he does go the Independent ASD route then he would not actually need control of the BT as you suspected. I use it only when I have my two units "locked to one stick" on the steering even then with some carefull operation of the thrusters I dont even need it then, Basically the only time it is used is to swing the bow away from the dock when I first leave it or to set the BT and one thruster set at 90deg to just tickover which will hold TN alongside the dock.

So with that I would say that he could not bother with the BT and be quite happy with the control he will have from the two ASD thrusters.

I cant offer any thing as to what tranni as I use a 40 meg FX18 with bells and all.
I would think he should feel comfortable with his tranni which makes for controlling easier.
