servo extention leads
« on: January 09, 2009, 09:55:47 pm »

Ok , i am allways looking for the best place to fit my servo's where they will reach the reciever and inevetably i find that i cant and require an extention lead .
So here i am looking on E-bay and i find these 290286730562, and for a general comparison (not picking on any shop in particular) for me to buy a single say futaba extention lead of the same length will cost me 70p and to buy the same amount as E-bay will rush me £31.50 plus postage .
I know i dont need 50 but at that price i would never run out .
So the big question is why not buy the leads ,is there something drasicly wrong with them ? .

I never had a problem but always tape the plugs together or use a lead keeper.

Actually taping plugs is probably not a good idea as you won't be able to see if negative green rot set in.

You could buy the 50 and sell them modestly among club mates or I don't know whether Martin would allow you to offer them on MBMF.
Me I buy them locally. 2 reasons support my local model shop and any problems with them is sorted promptly with the model shop. I sometimes use Howes Models on the net..

Watch out for cheap leads , I got some non futaba leads from a well known shop and they where rubbish, they where so loose even plugging in to itself I just used the wire for lights . I would hate to think how bad it would have been on a servo.

The ones that Component Shop sell are good and use rather thicker wire than most. Cheap too - 70p for 300mm and 55p for 150.

I cut the wires and solder new wire between the servo and the end that plugs into the receiver, I cover the solder joints with heat shrink tubing and then cover the whole area where the joint is with another layer of heat shrink tubing.

Nice products there but its the postage and I reckon I've saved a bob or two using the local model shop.

I always used to use one of these on long runs, and I never had any trouble with glitches at all. At one time you could buy such units for soldering into your own leads.
