Shark Boat ''ORCA''
« on: January 14, 2009, 01:16:19 am »

Another new model to my ever increasing projects, this I got off Ebay cheap (again!!) it is from Scoonie Hobbies and designed to be like the boat off the film JAWS, I have seen a few models finished from this kit and would like to see some more if anyone has made one. I will post the progress as and when I start the build and look forward to seeing any photos of your 'ORCA' or any comments you might have. Cheers, Dan.

Intresting boat, could you provide some details length, width, height, materials and who is selling them on Ebay? We never seem to get anything in the US that aren't mass produced speedboats. Its a shame shipping is so expensive between the US and UK...

Who told you that?...  ;D

Shipping isnt that expensive, especially at the moment... I just had a (very nice) plan delivered from the UK for 5.50 GBP ($8.00)

Rather than assume, it might be a good idea to contact them and ask.
Look at
http://www.scoonie-hobbies.co.uk/
and follow "shark boat".  There is a note that the kit is produced for Scoonie and Midway, so it might be available in the US anyway.

They are great pictures
I am doing a big ORCA based on a GRP hull I got at Warwick
It is about 120mm longer than Peter Fishers marine modeling Plan
I did the bin bag models one some time ago but gave it to a friend half finished.

I love my Orca :-) really enjoyed doing it
Loads of info here
http://www.createforum.com/operationorca/index.php?mforum=operationorca
really helped with the correct paint etc, my build is pretty much detailed on this forum if it helps. Just need some realistic figures now, they had been promised by another forum member who has let me down, so if anybody else fancies a commission build? :-))

Clive ,one of the lads at goole won the same kit at a raffle and built it as orca  but not in the same colours .
After some carving and painting he had a shark (not to scale) to tow behind .

Here is the status of the Orca Shark Boat from Scoonies today; a response to my email.

"Hi Brian,
Im sorry, but the Shark Boat is no longer in production, and we sold out of our stock quite some time ago. The only other shop that may have some left in stock would be - Midway Models in Leicester.

daytime pictures, similar to Pat Trites build, colours where taken from a post on the earlier mentioned site, from Universal Pictures. I paid heed to minor detail that I think finishes the boat, such as seven up drink can used by Hooper, smashed front window, bent bars on cage etc. I also had a custom smoke machine, which has been detailed on forum previously, unfortunately it was fitted after these photos. Its  a great boat to build, as it has to be scruffy to be realistic, so great fun weathering and dirtying it up when its done :-))
