Who can see them when they are under the water anyway?

I am all in favour of figures as long as they are good ones!

Well, to crew or not to crew? That is the question.

My personal take on it is, if you have put all that work into a model, to make it look like the real thing, then for goodness sake, put some crew members aboard.  My U.S.C.G. lifeboat has the full crew of 4, just like the real thing, dressed as they would probably be and posed as they might be when performing a rescue, the skipper on the bow, looking for a survivor, a crewman, ready to heave a life ring, another crewman, ready to assist someone aboard, and the coxswain at the helm.  My grandkids think it's just right and were telling a story about what was happening whilst I brought her about.  Imagination is the key to a great outing at the pond and a possible continuance of the hobby, somewhere down the road.  Isn't this what it's all about?

Totally agree with you... On that very theme, I was also just thinking about this destroyer I'm currently on with, which has (like most WWII cruiser-on-down-size vessels) an open bridge, which in real life would have had quite a few naval uniformed bods standing around on it.... So I can't see the point in building her if she is going to wander around the lake like a ghost ship completely empty and looking as if she's been abandoned by her crew, but still performing all sorts of evolutions, manoeuvres and turns of speed...  :o

I cannot remember ever seeing a model that did not look better without a crew, and I cannot ever remember seeing a ship that did not have one either,as long as they are realistic any you are happy with them anyone that does not like them tell them to sod off...

I did not bother with crew until I started on my first warship which, when completed, will have traversing guns with SFx. Who is supposed to be firing these if not a realistic crew?
I suspect the answer is in that word "realistic". If it adds realism to the model, then go for it!
