Borrow a Boat?
« on: January 16, 2009, 12:49:59 pm »

Fellow Mayhemmers
 I am trying to fill in some gaps in my/our knowledge about the application of brushless motors in REAL applications.

You are WONDERFUL people, and I have had a lot of help and advice in lots of areas - which I have attempted to pass on in Brushless Basics.

I am a fairly new boatie, and my main personal interest is in scale sail and small racing tachts (Footys) so I have very little suitable material to make trials with, apart from my BL trial boat - the fastest Footy Hull EVER.

So, here is the question.
I would like to fit a bulky hull with a suitable direct drive Brushless system, and find what prop works etc.  I have neither hull nor motor but am posting this in optimism.

Does anyone have a Tug , or tug hull, which is lying idle for the next few weeks?
or indeed any hull with  a lot of displacement?

Would you like to do some tests?  would you like to loan it?  Does anyone have a 375KV to 500 KV brushless?
Can we do Mayhem magic  to boldly go where etc.?

Will I have to make a Springer?
Meaning a large wooden one - I am already making a 6inch steam springer - but that's secret

Ron1,
I'm in Leicester, UK, reasonably mobile and have an Espace.

If it wasn't for Captain Haddock I might not recognise you when you post :}
I trust that Dreadnought will be BL when planked?  It's no more of an anachronism that discussing radar rates of rotation on the ship.

I have a tentative plan for a cardboard tug*, but Mayhemmers are being as enormously helpful as I would expect :-))

Or possibly Puffer :}

Ron,

I am very sorry to not have replied - I have not been able to access a computer for several days  for long enough to reply.

Thank you very much for the kind offer - judging by the paving slabs and my Mk 1 eyeball it must be about 30 to 36 inches long?

I think that you are in the cheshire area, if i remember right (not that I do nowadays).  Could you please tell me what the original  motor was, or is?

Best regards,

andrew

Ron,

Good grief!  T'would hardly fit in my Espace!  That is big and certainly meets the High displacement definition.

Thank you very much for the offer - I have been completely amazed and moved by the sheer helpfullness and generosity of the Mayhem crew.
I have had several kind offers and two boats have arrived!  Thank you kind friend :}

I cannot take you up on this - the size is beyond my experience or expectation - and I cannot, in the year of giving away my daughter (in marriage), expect to afford a large diameter brushless.

So thanks, Ron, but no thank you.

best regards,
andrew
