I took my nephew for a drive to the pond. Some teenage floozy ploughed into the side of the car, busting three of his ribs. Turns out she hadn't passed her driver test. No offence to anyone in particular, oooo, but I'm reminded of some members here who have moaned about those who take to the waters without a basic knowledge of ALL aspects
Meaning what exactly??A seemingly very topical matter at hand, so, to quote those three words from the normally very astute Miss Sinbad, made me think long and hard about that succinct, but slightly barbed comment. Then, all at once, it hit me....! My God, indeed, she's right - there is a point! Or to be correct, many possible points!
Could it be we can glean from the statement that prompted the 'Meaning what exactly?' question, that we all need to be licenced before we take to the water with our model boats? But if so, what form of licencing would this take - a theory test and a practical exam perhaps (like our current form of driving test??) to ensure that we don't go spoiling anyone else's day out at the lakeside - i.e. ramming other boat owner's models with a Kamikaze disregard of people's rights??

But then what if only 10% of us had sufficient knowledge (overall the many disciplines of building a model boat) to enable us to pass this proficiency test? (I'm sure I for one would fail miserably - and no cheating would be allowed either (ie. obtaining info from fellow Forum members etc., 'cos Forums such as this would have to be regulated by the examination board!) What a very sad day! :(
Not only that, but the result would surely spell disaster for the suppliers and would very probably mean the overnight devastation of the model boat industry..... and its resulting mega price inflation on all things model boats, for the remainder to moan about, who were proficient enough to obtain their licence! Just think, £300 for a propshaft - and an extra £200 if you want an oiling tube attached.....
But the rest of us - the failed 90% - what would become of us?? Knitting....? Crochet..? Ooops, both have sharp instruments! Now come on, everyone knows we need a licence to use sharp instruments??

Ok, then, what else can I do for enjoyment? I know - sex!
But hang on a minute, you know that sex is controlled by Act of Parliament and you need a licence for that too.... Come on you should know your history, look what effects sex can have on the rest of the population, never heard of what Mr and Mrs Hitler managed to produce? - or Mr and Mrs Pol Pot? And what about the spread of disease and population control.... Ohhhh Noooo, you can't just have sex willy nilly (please excuse the pun!

) - you certainly need a licence to do that sort of thing....!! :'(
So, bottom line then, I wonder what else in the future we will need a licence for then? ??? (Suggestions most welcome!)
Or (suggestion coming!) how about the old and useful adage... 'Lets all just
Live and Let Live!' and go out and enjoy our hobby!

Cheers, Brian
