Hi,
Looking good so far.
I've just completed a scratch build coble, built up from a wear boats/orion mouldings grp hull. I will create a new thread soon with build pictures etc..
It's been my first boat build and i think i've done pretty ok bearing in mind i've used nothing but caveman tools, to the point i've sat there crying with laughter at my little setup.
I've had a lot of problems with the motor selection. I started off with a 540 type motor on 7.2v which quickly blew up. I then swapped this for a 12v 550 motor on 7.2v which worked but didnt give the extra power i would possibly need. I then swapped this for a 8.4v graupner 600 again on 7.2v which i have stuck with as it gives bags of power and i can run it on half power which gives scale speed.
The rudder has been the biggest issue by far, its overall installation and operation was decided late in the build, stupid i know. After much swearing & alcohol, i finally managed to sort the issues out. My main issues were the actual design of the real boat i was basing it on (a friends boat) and how the rudder worked on there. The difficult angles and fulcrum points are what confused the rudder setup.
As for the rest of the electrics, i was kit'd out by Dave at action electronics to which i must give a big thanks. I purchased a diesel sound generator, power supply board, amp & speaker and an ESC. The kit works really well or worked really well should i say before a drunken moment when i decided to launch her into the sea. She held the water really well but upon attempting to beach her, she rolled and the electrics were ruined. I replaced the ESC and power board and she was working again. Getting to the sound gen and amp are impossible and i designed the layout in mind that i would only ever change the ESC if anything went wrong.
For such a simple boat, it was really hard to build, made worse by limited tools.
Anyway, enough babbling, a thread to follow so watch out all.
Dan
