Hello Group (info on Bluenose...original please).
« on: January 15, 2009, 09:34:36 am »

Hello All, thanks for the opportunity to learn from experts.

I am, as most of you were at one time or another, a relatively new ship builder. I have tons of questions but will try them one at a time.

I a trying to complete the Bluenose...(original) and of course I purchased a kit. That was my first mistake. I have searched high and low for information on the accuracy of the design but failed miserably. I am down to the rigging...what a joy.

I have 4 shroud lines that go from the rail to the topmast but in various photos that I have seen there seems to be some confusion as to wether the ratlies go all the way across all shrouds or just 2 of them.

Help please?

Hi Bob

Welcome aboard.

If you go to Youtube and put Bluenose Schoooner into the search box there are several videos of Bluenose II.

There is even a couple of Bluenose (the original).
Looking at these vids may give you your answer.

Bluenose (original) vs Gertrude L. Thebaud racing. Very old footage.

Hi BobW, also a beginner like you. My first attempt was the Billings kit of Bluenose when I was much younger, the rigging defeated me then too. Put me off any further attempts, would still love to learn enough and have another bash. Having waffled on enough, the reason for my reply is to let one and all know about a very interesting site, don't know if it's been mentioned on here before;     www.modelboatyard.com               apologies if others have mentioned this site already, hope there's some help.

The Billy Connolly programme on Thursday....Journey to the edge of the world .....there was a brief shot of a sailing boat called Bluenose, could it be the same ship?
I think it may feature in future episodes
The programme's worth watching anyway......
