A lot depends on the quality of what your paying for,and what type of rc gear it includes.
There are plenty of boats/kits on offer, but as soon as you get more than 20ft from the pondside the radio is rubbish,
wait for more advise from members on here, who may have used this model before spending that amount of money

At 249 quid it sounds very expensive to me.

The Radio doesn't mention changeable crystals and is on 27 MHz band.
This might be a real weakness and require changing to sail with other boats.
So best to factor in the cost of a 2 channel radio and 2 speed controllers.
These will cost roughly £80 ish.
If you are happy with the final costings it looks OK in video, but don't know the model.

Dont buy the extra pack at £75,rip off for some batteries and a charger, then you gotta buy lead for ballast

A fair guesstimate for the price of a model boat is £100, then add another £100 for each foot in length.  At the prices shown, it doesn't seem bad at all for a nice ARTS.  Rather than actually buy ballast I would go for carrying extra batteries.  It should be very suitable for detailing later after the initial excitement has subsided.

I'd say the RTR PT-109 is quite good value if you're a beginner and don't have the confidence to build a kit and install radio yourself. The cost is about the same as you'd pay for a good quality kit of similar size, radio, motors + battery - maybe a bit more, but there aren't many RTR scale boats available with decent quality radio, proportional throttle and steering! The model is 1/24 scale (quite a bit larger than the Italeri plastic kit) and should be a good basis for repainting + detailing.

If you don't mind a civil rather than warship subject, the "Thunder Tiger" range of RTR fishing boats are extremely good value at £100. They have a couple of modern boats (Majestic/?) and one in an early/mid 20th century style (Lobmaster/Kingfisher)

Hey CS, shouldn't he be wanting the lightest craft possible for a planing hull? ;-) Don't be trying to boost your shares in 'Occidental Lead, LTD.' :-)
