Where Are They Now - Your old boats
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:33:32 am »

We've all done it, sold boats / subs to make room for newer ones etc & like me there's probably 1 or 2 you regret selling, so I thought I'd post on here to see if some of my old boats are still sailing via members on Mayhem.

I'll get things Going

I know that 2 of mine - Submarine TallyHo & Sealion made there way to Hull - are they still sailing Pete? - but also would be interested if this one's still going:

HMS Berwick. Type 12 Frigate.  Alpha Class Submarine.

I wish I could post of piccie of one of my old ones, the Lesro Atlantic 21 I built some 6-7 years ago.  <:(

It was my first even slightly scale boat, after maybe 2-3 ARTS boats and a 575 that now decorates our dining room mantlepiece. On the second run the Atlantic sprung a leak and sank to the depths of Lydney Lake, where it presumably still is, together with my ancient Skyleader 27 Mhz Rx and servo. As the Lake is about 10 ft deep at that point there was zero chance of recovery, so that was that.

I do have another one and when I build that it'll be WELL sealed!

I know where my Tenby went (dickyd) much better home for her and looks good on the water.

The only other model that i should of kept was my Schutze which i sold to Dazz, on the other hand i have another Schutze which im building at the moment.

On the note of boats at the bottom of lakes just think of how many more boats could be down there too makes you wonder.
(note to Martin we need to establish a Mayhem RESCUE SQUAD to recover lost boats :-)) )

Gary----I've got the scuba gear (you should see the post on anycroyns) but its bl**dy cold up there having dived on scarpa flow  :(( :(( :((
As for my other boats-------well Stavros you'd better come clean (and he's re motored it, now it shifts)
And if any one's got a Saolome (Vic Smeed design cir 1967-ish in blue, its mine)

As for the rest------the family still has them all----------(I hope)

There must be a lot out there, in lofts, garages etc, it would be nice to know, not only what happened to our old boats, but old boats in general, some maybe restoreable for at least exhibition's etc (but no flea bay with the words "vintage" "colLectable" "rare" etc etc please) or in their original (as found) condition

A Mayhem Vintage page maybe-------
Only boats over 30 years old in origanal (or as near as---meaning no replacing with brushless type things in old hulls) or modern glows etc etc
Its a thought
 ;) ;)

That's impossible.. there's enough detail there to drive even the most insular amoung us mad with curiousity. Did it fly away as in with a TX sense of flying or fly away via a set of sticky fingers?

OK TC, here's how it happened..the Huey was my first r/c heli, I bought the kit from HB's shop, assembled it, and then took it back to them for pre-flight checks and setting up, which was part of the deal. I left it with them for a week, went back to collect it, and was led into the back room by a very embarrassed looking HB, who explained that the heli had been taken away by someone to do the job, and he'd never re-appeared with it.

All credit to HB, he had a brand new kit built, checked and test flown for me, and he also paid for my lessons to learn to fly it. I also ended up with a far better radio...mine had a Futaba Heli radio, the replacement one had a brand new JR Heli radio and gyro installed at no charge.

There you are...that's the story behind that one!

Rich

Hey Rich, you're names not very apt! You should have been christened 'poorer'!

Tell ya what mate, I fancy a go at a helo, fancy buying me one?

Seriuosly, did you ever get the background of that one? Did the shop keeper owe money or something? [Dunno if you should answer this as there's a named guy and all that.]
