the nearest model figure size is 120mm (standard military figure size) this is slightly oversize but probably won't notice.

Thanks for the quick replies, I worked it out to be around 4.3". I have looked at some of the lifeboat crew members that are commercially available, but £15-£18 is a bit steep (not including postage) when I would like 3 or 4. Speedline's crew look superb, but I cant part with that kind of cash When all I need is a couple of action figures and milli-put.

Many thanks,
Mark

Barry this may be useful at a later date for other projects in the pipe line. O0

Mark have you tried George Turner for your figures.

I have them on my lifeboat and they are excellent.

They cost £ 7.95 plus each plus p&p.

I had a look at them, but I am not to sure of them. can you post a link to pics of your crew on the boat? That might sway me.

At the moment all I'm finding are figures at 3.75" that would be suitable to convert to crew men. There are some 4.5" figures about, but none that would convert very well.

They don't look to bad at that distance, I would however appreciate some more photos before I throw some money at them.

Thanks,

Hi Mark
I've got George Turner's figures on my 1/16th Speedline Severn. I understand that at the end of the month he'll have figures ready painted for sale, but I don't know the price.

George Turners pre-painted figures were on sale at Warwick last year. I think they were not expensive (I recall "stupidly cheap for a pre-painted figure"). I've used them on boats and they are pretty good - not up to military modelling standards but not too catoonish either.

You get what you pay for - most of us wouldn't better a Turner figure with milliput. If you can then you should be casting them and selling them yourself !

I keep going back and looking at George Turners figures, but his 1:12 are far nicer. They also have better posses. It will be a wee while before I need figures, but please keep giving suggestions because I'm going to hold off for the moment. Just to see if I come across something worth the money, if not Speedline will get the order (I just wont tell the wife there £40 +p&p) ok2.

Size of crew members?  The most common size figures and most readliy available, without purchasing "specials" at a high price, are 4 to 4 1/4 inch action figures modified.  This translates into 5'4" to 5'8" figures.  And as far as being short, my brother served aboard a destroyer in the U.S.Navy and stood 5'6", as did my wife's father who stood 5'6".  All the members of the crew on my USCG lifeboat are that tall  ( 4 to 4 1/4) and look fine.  All of mine were action figures modified to suit.  To check them out, look in this site either as"Lynn or Crazy Yank"and in www.44mlb.com under "Lynn's modelling tips" and model lifeboats, number 44347.
