Lake Windermere Steam Launch Dolly
« on: August 28, 2009, 05:24:45 pm »

I am currently researching the Lake Windermere Steam Launch Dolly as I want to build a 1:12 scale working model of her.  This will follow prototype construction methods, the engine and boiler will also be scratch-built.   I have access to a set of excellent drawings of Dolly, but I lack photographs of her.

I'm interested in acquiring photographs of her, especially those that show close up of her hull, decks, passenger areas, internal of cabin etc..  These will be welcome either via digital or via hard copy.

I hope to start the building of the hull to coincide with I starting on the engine when I go back to night classes in the back end of September.  I take this opportunity to assure you that any help given will be most gratefully received and appreciated by me.

Thanking you in anticipation
I remain yours

You may do well to PM Martin and get this post moved to the Steam section- there are many people who can help on here i'm sure.

Here's one to get started with- taken just after G Pattinson raised her from the bottom of Ullswater.

Sounds like a great project- check out Shamrock's post on the steam section regarding SL Shamrock on windermere- you may be of some help regarding plans.

Hi Patrick,

I have a couple of dozen pics of SL Dolly taken at The Windermere Steamboat Museum in 2006.  I took them for the purpose of capturing detail should I ever get round to finding time to build a model myself. I will email these to you.
I remember there was also a very fine model of Dolly at the Museum, built by Keith Townsend.
Cheers, Jim

Patrick,

I've just noticed that some of the photos I have sent you are actually of Keith Townsend's model and it's difficult to tell on some images which is the model and which is the full sized boat!  (a testament to the model's quality).  The model is to quite a large scale (I think it is something like 1:8 or 1:6)

Cheers

Hi Jim,

The model built by KT was so detailed that even the locks on the cabin doors worked!!!!!!

Greg,
Well, I am not surprised! Been impressed with his work ever since his detailed account of his model of "Branksome", serialised in Model Boats in the 60's.
