I have just found a couple of pics of a vessel with the crane set down one side (portside I think) and also, I am reading and looking at the Plans from Glynn's of the Emily May.
What I would err on caution is
although the hull looks reasonably stable I would keep all top weight as light as possible so that any fixtures and fittings which you build, try and make from either plasticard or balsa wood and avoid using metal fittings if possible on the deck.
If you look at the Ships Nostalgia forum - they have a picture gallery - and there are a lot of coastal vessels on there. You might find a photograph of a suitable vessel which you wish to base your model on.
I am looking for some drawings of modern winches etc., for you - with them being modern though, they will be basically 'box' shapes
