Model Boat Magazine Index
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:06:30 pm »

Hi
I have been told that there is an index for the Model Boat magazine, covering all years. This information was passed to me while at a local boating lake. I was told that it probably was not official. ie from Model Boats themselves.

Does anyone know if such a thing actually exists ?

Would be really handy.

Cheers John

Yes there is some indexing information which goes back a number of years but not forever. The Editor, Paul Freshney, gave me some of this material a couple of weeks ago and it is my intention to see if I can format it for putting on the Model Boats website some time in the near future. So watch this space!

It's not felt to be economic at the moment. Take out a subscription and in 5 year's time you'll have lots of back issues of your own!

And then you will have all the wonderful and out-of date adverts to stow. Not to mention the articles that you haven't the slightest interest in. And then you have to cope with the various changes of format of the magazine. Over the years "Model Boats" has gone through more changes than any political party you can name. At least "Model Shipwright" has kept to its original size, which if nothing else makes the bookshelf look neat.
The other "gripe" i have with "Model Boats" is that the placement of articles is so random. I have no idea who thought that going forward 15 pages and then back 6 would be a good idea. Cohesiviness would be a good start. But at least it has colour.
As a long term contributor to MSW I was appalled to get a letter stating that the journal was, in the future, to be an annual publication. What earthly use is that! Model Shipbuilders are by their very nature quite "solitary" but need gee-ing up now and again just to keep the momentum going. Once a year? I don't think so. Subs cancelled. BY.

Easy enough Colin. As you may recall, I sort of "look after" TMBCs collection of "Model Boats" (and "Model Maker"..the forerunner) and it would be so much easier to read some of the back issues if flipping pages back and forth was not required. If individual articles could be cut out (OK, I realise that there is a reverse side to a page) then binding up articles of interest would be easier to access. And who wants a bookshelf full of out of date adverts?  Regards. Bryan.

I appreciate that many years ago it was sometimes necessary to dodge about to read the last part of an article but in recent years to my knowledge all articles have been sequential as printed.

But if you can quote me a recent example....

Point taken Colin. I was, of course referring to older issues. I apologize. Bryan.
