LOBSTER POTS

 HELP; I can make all kind of lobster pots in all scales but what I find hard to get is netting for the smaller scales ;
 1/32.. 1/48.. 1/24.. etc; Any help on this would be greatly welcomed.....  bigH

 ASDA sell onions in  brown nylon mesh bags,they are approx 2x2mm square.They also mesh bags for oranges at the same size,make nice scale fishing nets.I hope this is of some help. :-)) :-))

Hair nets. Also ask some female close to you about the various "denier" tights / stockings that they wear. Muslin has pretty small squares as does some of the embroidery backing. The world is your oyster (lobster). BY.

.... favourite of mine to use is old net curtaining - next time you look round the market/curtain shops have a look at the remnants - then swmbo cannot tell you off for cutting the bottom of the net off as I have done before today  %% %% nets now half way up the window - mmmm wonder why.

 :}  Thanks a lot fellas, it was nice of you to reply.   I'm now off to shop (Arghhhh) and have a look at ALL the suggestion
and "Taking one of my pots with me", I am fed up with buying things because they look about the size so I try to
 make sure I have measurements with me now  ;)    Harry

I used copper mesh on my lobster pots and soldered it to Brass hoops.

I was advised by Umi to use the stuff they use for bridal viels. She used it and it looks good.

The problem with nylon net is that it is impervious to most glues, including CA
And Plastic nets are impervios to CA

NOW you tell me TT ...... I did buy a number of different pieces and things to try, and found the veil netting perfect for 1/24 scale,
and it all fell apart when I tried to superglue it, back to the drawing board, double sided tape on the bottom of the pot and stick
the net to that, perfect! I thought 'til I stretched it.... "bl*+"^y thing popped off, repeated tape stick and fixed a board over the
 base and it worked.  thanks all, bigH

Try the local pound shops as the sell small keep nets for fishing.  I have use them and they glue OK.

What is the size of the mesh on a full size lobster pot,??  I've some to make at 1:12

Hi Frankie, I don't know what the actual size is, but looking at a foto here in front of me and comparing it to
the guy holding it I would place it at approx 4 x 4 ins or 4 x 3 ins,  BUT on the pile of pots on the wharf it looks
as if they built them to match the size of the pot or whatever they had to hand.  I take a mature lobby to be
 about 15" - 16" long.  ( The size of the two the missus got from Lidl were that anyway, and very nice they were)

I would have thought the same as Big H.

For the small family boats pots would often have been made from whatever is at hand.

Strange, I used superglue... I wonder what you purchased, or, what I purchased...

Hi Umi, I did try cyano but it would not hold the veiling, so, as stated, I used a military strength double sided tape,
courtesy of the RAF, ( I was given it quite legally and made a very nice donation to their charity) boy' that stuff
would stick s**t to glass, not that I would try it.    O0 the tape I used was ordinairy stuff that you by in any
 hardware or stationary store so the veiling popped off when tugged, the RAF stuff is used to stick small patches
on aircraft as an emergecy measure, ( wonder if they used it on the Enterprise  {:-{ ) anyway it's all stuck up now,
I just have to unstick my latest great grandson from the wall where I hung him and I'm done.
