Mark47,
As an ex member of Glasgow Richmond Club in the past the static display was to the park side and in front of the Portacabin and the public were allowed to  get very close to the models as we always had a good number of members manning the areas.
The front of the Portacabin was for the models to be judged and again the general public were allowed very close.
It was usually accepted that some minor damage MIGHT occur, as did to a few of my warships, but not only at home water but during ship launching displays.

At the three events I helped man. The models were always cordoned off.  Non members could get close, but no closer than 4-5'. At that time along with the model task force displays (pyrotechnics). The Paisley model centre also attended with there flying club members. Displaying planes helicopters and all sorts. I also remember one year having a small steam powered steam roller/train thing that took the kids for a ride around the club.

i would rather not say as i wasnt here to start trouble i just wanted to point out that one person made us feel uncomfortable that was all the gentleman it concerns will know he is . we were in the static display area looking at he fearless as its one of my favourites and there was no sign or rope to tell us it was members only at that point then the gentleman obruptly walked in an told us to leave the area in case we broke anythin . now i have been brought up around the models and understand about how much work etc goes into the models so made sure and i took extra care not to even touch the models . but it was just this persons attitude that annoyed me . and when he wasn`t at the display there was other members inviting people in to look around and explaining a bit about some of the models etc

as i said i didnt want to offend anyone as i am not that type of person

Ok guys

As I am the guy who actually owns the Intrepid (not Fearless) and am also the Vice chairman of the club,I would like to know who if anyone has caused offence as it is always a good idea to hear both sides of the argument before posting comments detrimental to the well being of the club.May I also state that I am 31 years old and have been involved in the model boat scene since the approx age of 6 and in all that time ,have always known the static display area of whatever club to be cordoned off to members of the public through whatever method.I have also discussed this topic with various other guys who were in the club a long time before me and who had their own boats in the Bang bang displays and who are like myself still active in the warship side of the club only to be told this has always been the case. Now yes I am sure there was and will be in the future members of the public asked inside the barrier for a closer look, but I am sure you will understand this will be down to the discretion of the members looking after that particular area!I am sure you also understand that the bang bangs can no longer take place due to insurance purposes and that the club was led away from the steam railway at the show for whatever reason but be assured that this is something we have been looking at along with a few other ideas.NOW AS THIS WAS ONLY A START OF SEASON show of course it was going to be slightly smaller and of course there was not going to be comp judging as this takes place at the open day,so the only thing missing was steering and docking which over the last 4-5 years has proved to be of non interest to the majority of modelers and so was refined into the Tug towing event which will be held next month as a show of its own!

hi michael i admit i was wrong about the extras that werent there from what my family and i remembered as no one knew it was just a start of season display as the sign out side and adverts did say it was an open day so we were wrong to assume it would be the same sort of stuff and the other guys on here have explained about the comps and bang bangs lol but like i said i still had a great day out and my family loved it too we jus thought that the person concerned was rather cheeky that was all and then he near enough shouted that the bl***y public were coming in and nosing around the models . which we all felt was un necassary and if he was a bit more polite to people it would of been better . i for one understand why the public arent aloud too close to the models as i havemodels damaged in the past along with friends of mine have had it too . the problem wasnt the show , the models , the display , or anything it was just this one member and i thought you guys may want it brought to your attention but i didnt realise it would cause so much trouble . i asked why the open day had changed so much and other members have explained it to me and i understand now.

hopefully once i get my first model on the go i`ll pop down to the club and meet everyone i have spoke to here

cheers graeme

p.s. sorry for gettin the name wrong there both great ships  :-))

No Problem Graeme! You are more than welcome down anytime, infact I am off there tonight!

I think it just got some of our backs up a little that the said problems were brought up on here and not to us as we try to run an open club and deal with problems as they arise as we have had our own fair share of problems over recent years.Bye the way you have had me thinking incase it was me as I told the guys to shut the rope at one point. If it was me or indeed on behalf of whoever it was within the club,I would like to appologise to you and your family!
