Both Revell and Academy make a 1/400th kit of RMS Titanic...have any of you guys built one and converted it to r/c operation?

U-33,

I don't know about the Revell Titanic I do know that the Academy's kit is 1/350th. If you go to this web site you will find reviews about the different kits and that mibht help you make a decision ( http://titanic-model.com/reviews/index.shtml ). If I was going to try and do this I would use the Academy kit as there are a lot of aftermarket photo etched detail parts for that kit. Here is a web site that will help modify the kit to better match the ship ( http://rivetcounter.txc.net.au/ ).

Andre

PS If you build this it aint ROUND, I think that we have to start bugging that other guy again if you know what I mean. ;D

Me? Bug Ian? Never Andre.....I would'nt dare bug Ian about it. Not without Barry's back up anyway!!!

Thanks Andre, the Academy kit does look the better one to try and r/c. I did start a Revell kit years ago, don't know what happened to that. I fancy a change as a spare time project, always liked theTitanic and the story behind it.

Probably going to be fiddly for me to motorise!! Wish her luck from me....

For motors I would use servos and and convert them.  Small, cheap, come with a speed control already built in. Here is a pretty good how to ( http://www.kronosrobotics.com/an116/GAN116_3003.htm ) on how to convert them.

Rich,

What you need to do is put all of the electronics in a WTC with the ability to blow the ballast, and if you build the tanks right you can eve get her to sink.  ;D

Andre....that's how I got into building submarines. Many years ago I wanted to build a Titanic model with the idea of hitting an r/c iceberg, having the ship sink, and then refloating her. Having no idea as to how to go about it, I found the Association of Model Submariners, contacted a certain Bernie Wood, who suggested I build a sub to get the idea. I did...and have built subs more or less ever since.

The Titanic only got as far as the keel being laid, it was in my garage for years until it had warped so badly I had to dispose of it...at 14' 4" long it would have been a right handful to move about, but I was younger and fitter then. Until my split with the wife I still had the iceberg in the attic....wonder what happened to that?

This one will be surface running only...... :-))

That's true I guess...it wouldn't have needed any ballast if I'd have got in it!!!! Bouyancy yes....ballast, no!!

Don't forget to wear an approved life preserver, remember what happened to the people that weren't wearing one that last time some one got in her.
