That's the strangest propshaft I've ever seen....

It should be almost touching the model it is so close... Get the propellor you want to use with the motor you are using, and pull it inwards so that there is about 3mm clearance between the bottom of the prop and the hull. Like that it will dive in forwards under power...

One word, No...

It looks far too far forward. Someone out there with a wooden huntsman will tell you where it's meant to be, it also looks to be at too much of an angle.

Hi Andy

If it's any help I have an old Veron Huntsman which is 42" long & the propshaft centre line exits the hull approx. 17 cm forward of the transom. If your boat is 47" long then it's 1.12 x up on mine which would mean your propshaft should exit approx. 19 cm forward of the transom (17 cm x scale of 1.12 = 19.04 cm).

Not sure that the old Veron kits are 100% accurate but it should give you a rough idea of positioning.

Hope this helps  :-))

Mark

Andy - this site may help you. Scroll down to about page 3 (submerged drive).  The principle is the same whatever the boat.

Hullo Andy,
I have just read this post for the first time having been away a few days.

I am also building a 42" Huntsman but from the Vic Smeed plan. This gives an exit point approximately the same as the measurement given by 'Vintage'. I have just measured the exit point on mine and it is 175 mm from the transom. I tried to keep my shaft angle as low as possible which resulted in the prop being a bit closer to the stern than I would have liked hence my initial concern but consensus of opinion at the local water is that it should be okay.

If you take a look at http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=14357.0 and scroll down to post 73/74 on page 3 there is a pic of my prop set up which may help you.

Best of luck with your build  :-)) - Ramon

Hi there yes i have looked at those photos very nice remind me not to show you any of mine photos because I think you make a lot of builders envy  with your build quality. Photos may help I can make a temp let from the photo with the shaft extended and use that to measure where it comes from the hull??. Thanks for the advice regards Andy Quirot (Jersey Channel Islands)

Hi Andy the measurement that you have mentioned in your first post is correct BUT one question springs to mind .Have you replaced the woodwork on the hull at all,the reason I ask is if you have I think that you have not relieved the prop hole enough.I have had mine out today and fitted the propshaft to it and there is enough clearance for a 60mm prop in mine. There are no dimensions on the plans at all PM me your full address as my scanner has versed to work and I will photocopy the original plans in work and send them to you.
