anyone have a sheerline type VII?
« on: October 19, 2006, 09:23:55 pm »

Hi my dad has just bought a sheerline type 7 second hand (already built). it has a 12V 6Ah battery in it and has been told that he should get about 45 mins out of it. However he would like a longer run time and would like to know what batteries you have used and what run time you get from them.

Also could it be possible to use high capacity Nimh or Nicad cells and make a battery pack to the same dimensions as the battery already in there to get a longer run time? can you run these batteries wet?

any help and advise is as usual greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Grant  :) :) :)

I'd have thought you'd get a longer run than 45 minutes froma 6 AH battery at 12 volts.

Give it a go and see how you get on before thinking about a battery upgrade.

Otherwise, yes you can run NiMH batteries wet, and you can most likely increase your capacity, as batteries seem to get higher in rating with every passing year.

I have a 6AH 12v battery in a Model Slipway Envoy class tug.  This thing weighs a ton and can go around the pond at well over scale speed through it's Decaperm geared unit.  I have had it out for well over an hour and a half and it wasn't showing signs of slowing down.

I would carefully recharge and condition, if possible, your existing battery as I am sure you should be getting better out of it.  It may be getting old though and past it's best, especially if it's been passed on.
