Hello from a new boy
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:35:05 am »

Hi folks,

THought I'd post a quick hello.  Just picked up my first boat - a restoration project in the shape of a 49" Perkasa.  Been stored under several boxes by the looks of it.  There's 2 motors inside, BB42 13V which as far as I can gather are Ford heater / blower motors.  Is it worth sticking with these if they are functional, or is it best to replace with something more suitable?
No radio equipment, or ESC at the moment so I will probably be picking brains for those too  :-))

Thanks folks,

I've spent the last couple of hours at work ripping apart old PC's to liberate any LED's that might be useful.  So far, I have an illuminating radar screen and dials on the console.  Occasionally, working in IT has benefits....only occasionally though!  {-)

Hi SlimRick, My first two boats were Perkasa 49's with grp hull. If you look in the 'Design Office' section of the forum in the 'Beginners start here' subsection I posted info in my post titled 'Newbie wanting Vosper RTTL plan and'or hull' is very relevant . (Sorry to be longwinded but I cannot hyperlink  %). Your 49 is a great starter and gear you buy is transferrable to future boats - especially if you like large fast electric. The Graupner motors I used were spot on - now £19.99 + p.p. Now there's also big 12v 4400 nicads - each £36 +pp available if used with 2 x 50+amp ESC's or my original gel alternative -. (I'll try and identify the props I used.) Comeback if helpful.  :-))

Hi again SlimRick, Update: Have a look at a thread on a single 'MMB 900 motor' running at 24v (twin 12v 4400 nicads) on a 49 Perkasa by a Welsh member called 'Stavros' - use the index - type in the motor details. Awesome performance and endurance!  :o
