Looking for a supplier of cotter/split pins who will ship
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:21:34 am »

I am looking for a supplier of brass cotter/split pins that will ship small quantities internationally.

I am trying to get 1/16" (1.6mm) x 3/4" (20mm) brass.
Any close metric equivalent OK.

I have been searching on-line and can only find manufactureres or suppliers of bulk in this small size.
I couldn't see any in the Screwfix catalogue.

I don't want to buy 10,000
A hundred should do me for life.

If anybody knows of a mail order hardware supplier who does these, please let me know.

I came across a garden railway company that ship, but only list brass split pins in 1/16 x 1/2 bags of 50, might be worth an e mail to see if they can get other sizes.
Mostly brass plated over here now.

Not brass I'm afraid but they do have 1,6 x 25mm in a 100 pack, http://www.modelfixings.com/

Hi John

I have been to the website, I have placed an order, but how on earth do I get to the 'payment' page?

Thanks guys

I received an email from GRS this morning.

Hopefully I can sort it out.

Seeing as they are 1/16" I assume they are procured in the US.

Thanks Proteus, I will bear that in mind.

I would prefer brass if I can get them, it is for scale sail ships and the brass tarnishes in to an obscure colour.

Tigertiger,

I bought some cotter pins from, I think, www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk
They are made by Amati of Italy. Pkts of 100, brass and various lengths.
The ones I have are 10m/m long and are- article number 4702 jackstay eyebolts 2 legs.
I believe they do export but a quick email should help you to find out.

Ron.

Hi Ron

Thanks for that.
I think I am sorted for now with GRS, if not I will try Cornwallmodels.

I always thought that cotter pins were those wedge shaped pins with a nut on the end that held pedals on bikes ?

The cotter pin is like a piece of bent wire. If goes through a hole in the threaded shaft and locks the nut on the end. Maybe lock is the wrong word, but it stops it turning.
