Weathering
« on: June 13, 2009, 09:52:53 pm »

I know its a personal thing, whether to weather or not...... can anyone please point me in the right direction of some pictures of working boats ( full size) so that i can sort out rust/ scrapes etc etc in my own mind ? I have googled till im blue in the face.

In my defence, i have had very little to do with full size boats apart from sleeping on Sir Galahad in the 80's in a green uniform .

What sort of boat are you modeling? and what condition are you trying to replicate i.e. war damaged! in service! work worn!?? Maybe if we had an ida then others could post pics of their vessels and real ones. I also think there is a good thread on this forum on the subject of weathering.

thanks Pirate.

Its a Mountfleet " danny boy" that i built 13 years ago for someone, ive managed to buy it back but it has been in a glass case and unused  all that time...........its far too "clean" for me !
I have searched the forum for previous posts to  no avail.

im not looking for major rusty pics, just a pic or two of working fishing boats.

Hi Rob
Some further info on weathering.
If you get on to the Model Boats site, click on "Hints tips and technical" then type "weathering" in the search box, a very good article
"Mucking up" will come up for you.
Hope this helps a bit more.

Rob, I think it's coming along very nicely.  Can we see a bit more of it?

I have a old tug model that I have started to strip and refurb and intend to make it look and be a used mucked up and weathered working model in all senses of those words!
