Nice ride. What's that under the hood? A Chevy ZL4? It looks like aluminum heads on it. I trust you have a 4 gear behind it.
How did that car get over there?

the bird will do about 23-25 to the gallon,as long as i dont go too heavy with the throttle,as she has the 5 speed manual gearbox, she is only doing about 2000 rpm traveling about 65-70 mph :-))daz

Only problem is there are no straight roads round these parts to really let that bird fly. An old mate of mine back in BC use to have one, always made it to the golf course very quickly, too bad his tee shots weren't as straight {-) {-)

Absolutely awesome. I love cars of the seventies and sixties and have owned 3, but never an American one, that would be the ultimate. Thanks for the pictures.

That machine has got real presence and I just love 2000 rpm at 65-70 mph. I hate high revvers, I know they have a job to do on performance and small engined cars but I love lazy torquey engines. I am impressed at your fuel consumption figures and I bet it sounds and goes as well as it looks.
Very nice machine Daz.

Hi

I'm new here, for years Ive used the user name Firebird. Bet you can't guess why. 25 or so years ago, before the wife, mortgages and children ( not necessarily in that order) this was mine. A 73  350 esprit. Oh do I wish I'd still got it.  <:( <:( <:(

Cheers

I loved the old Firebirds and Cameros
The new ones have nowhere near as much charachter.

Dazz
I have never seen a hood like that before on a pontiac. Is that standard for your model, or an aftermarket modification?

My Scottish mate's wife had always fancied the car after seeing one on The Rockford Files.

In the early 80s they were stationed in Canada (military) and as a surprise he bought her one for her birthday. She was shocked at how big it was. Coming from UK she was probably expecting something in size between a Ford Escort and an MGB.  ok2

The scooped hood was an option on the Firebird, It came on the 400 Firebird and the Transam if memory serves me correctly/

I modify my last comment on the hood scoop. That scoop came on the 1970 400 Firebird only. The TransAm had a shaker scoop in the center of the hood. The shaker scoop was fastened to the engine with the air filter and rode above the hood, but independent of it. The grill design on the cars above lasted until 1973. In 1974 the grills were sloping downward rather than vertical, as above. To my mind the design was ruined for a period when they did that alteration.
