Rob, that look s a bit big mate, it will take a lot of lead to kill the buoyancy and you will have make room for it. I looks like you have no room for batteries either.

Fear not chap...that was just as it arrived today. I'll only need about half of it roughly...main power battery up f'ward  in the wet area, ballast tank dead centre.

Did you get that from Ian, it is ROUND in one dimension . Did you give up on the the other sub (The Titanic ) you were thinking about building ?

Yes that would be a heavy boat, about 40 pounds by my calculations to displace that cylinder.

Oh thanks Andy...that's put me right off building the thing! No, I reckon about half of that tube will be ample...so that's down to 20 pounds then, is it?   :D

Andre..no, not given up at all on Titanic. The Victor is to be a long term project, Titanic is half finished, I'm waiting on the shafts and props.

You have been spending too much time with AutoCad, I have a hard time not telling some one that I am sending them a "dwg" and typing "SP" and hitting "enter" and being upset when I don't get the spell checker, or typing "PP" and not getting it to print in Word or any other program other that AutoCad.  O0

I'm using a 152mm inside diameter WTC in my 1/32 scale Type IX-C submarine with 2- Engel 750ml diving tanks.Still working out the overall length of the WTC.I'm thinking around 914.4 mm long WTC in the 2400.3mm long hull with a 215.9mm width.I work with shedule 40 - 6" (152.4mm) www.harvel.com clear pvc pipe.My bulkheads will be made out of bearing bronze and will support the shafts and control rods.  8)

Sounds about right, not sure about those bearing bronze bulkheads though, sounds like a bit of overkill!

I will post an image when the parts are fabricated.
I work with bronze,brass,aluminum and copper in my occupation and sil-floss solder metals ,so I am very comfotable with this type of fabrication.

I am having second thoughts about the wtc size.The hull width can not support that much diameter so am going to use a 114.30mm O.D. X 101.55 I.D. wtc tube.I can then use a Norbert Bruggen bayonet ring set for the wtc caps.

What is wrong with a set turned from plastic (PVC, acrylic, acetal, polycarbonate etc.).

Cheap and effective.

The bayonet rings are a really expensive way of getting an endcap, and you will still have to cap them off.

I'm using bearing bronze plate for the outer bulkheads inset into the bayonet rings.I work in metal machining ,so no big problem for me.The machinable plastic is almost as expensive as the metal material.I would rather solder the shaft and bearing supports onto the bulkheads.The bayonet rings are some of the best sealing techniques out there.

Yeah, but how are you going to attach the bronze plates to the aluminium bayonet rings?

All that metal means weight, in a place you don't want it- i.e. quite high up.

It's quite possible to use a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, but nutcrackers will suffice.

The outer bayonet piece will be machined in bearing bronze plate with the bulkhead designed in the open area of the ring making it one-piece.
