stopped off at Hove lagoon on the way home this morning with the Azteca class and the tug.
bit of misty rain and plenty of swell, even good size scale waves at the Shorham end, but decided to give Azteca her first run for me, so after checking with the one windsurfer there, placed her in the water and off she went.
well impressed with her even in the choppy water and wind, plenty responsive to the rudder and good headway even with only one prop.
did have to abort when I got down into the wavy bit as waves probably a good six to eight inches high, and water breaking over both bow and to a lesser degree stern, so struggled back to calmer waters and hauled her out.
considering no coaming around the hatch into the hull, was well impressed with only a little water in the hull.
back to the car and changed over to the tug, but oh disaster, she couldn't even hold her station against the wind and waves at the quieter end, and was soon drifting down wind in spite of full power.
in spite of her weight she even nearly rolled when I tried to turn her around to get her back to the side.
still got her back safely in the end, and inspite of water across the decks she was still dry inside.
I know now, need more power, or else take the Azteca unless dead calm.
off to bed now,
good sailing to you all today..alan
