weather report south east
« on: November 01, 2009, 08:37:56 am »

stopped off at Hove lagoon on the way home this morning with the Azteca class and the tug.

bit of misty rain and plenty of swell, even good size scale waves at the Shorham end, but decided to give Azteca her first run for me, so after checking with the one windsurfer there, placed her in the water and off she went.

well impressed with her even in the choppy water and wind, plenty responsive to the rudder and good headway even with only one prop.

did have to abort when I got down into the wavy bit as waves probably a good six to eight inches high, and water breaking over both bow and to a lesser degree stern, so struggled back to calmer waters and hauled her out.

considering no coaming around the hatch into the hull, was well impressed with only a little water in the hull.

back to the car and changed over to the tug, but oh disaster, she couldn't even hold her station against the wind and waves at the quieter end, and was soon drifting down wind in spite of full power.

in spite of her weight she even nearly rolled when I tried to turn her around to get her back to the side.

still got her back safely in the end, and inspite of water across the decks she was still dry inside.

I know now, need more power, or else take the Azteca unless dead calm.

off to bed now,

good sailing to you all today..alan

Pictures?? Even though you described it very well and took me there for a minute I'd love to see some pictures of it. I'm happy that you got both boats back again.

Hi Hama,

back at work tonight and the IT police limit what we can do, still at least can get onto Mayhem !!

got a couple of pics of the Azteca, was too busy salvaging the tug, and will try to get them posted tomorrow or tuesday.

cheers

alan

ps thought the small lagoon would have been wet, but seems to have been drained so only the big one available, hence needing to liase with the windsurfer.

don't know how long the small lagoon is dry for.
might pop down again off the last night shift, ie wednesday morning.

hi,

one pic from sunday am and then some from this am.

much nicer today at 0700, though still cold and a fair chop on the water.

I am sure that the Azteca needs those other two props / motors fitted, as a bit embarassing when overtaken by a swan taking off.
