Kawartha Marine Modeler's Fun float
« on: July 07, 2009, 03:38:16 am »

This last Saturday was the annual Fun Float in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, hosted by the Kawartha Marine Modelers. This is our club's premiere event of the year with open invites to other marine modelers and clubs in the traveling area. We had a good turnout with some exellent modeling exhibited by all who attended. A good run was had in the local river under perfect weather conditions. Everyone went home at the end of the day well fed and well watered and happy.
These first pics show the registration desk and the rescue vessel setting out for a practice lap, plus an overall view of the display area.

A rather large, completely scratch built, Fairmile made and appearance. Most impressive.

Also on display and in operation were examples of Jack Kipfer's "floating furniture". They are completely scratch built models of existing full size mahogany runabouts.

Not to be out done were a selection of smaller vessels as represented by this small, but very well done, fishing trawler.

Absolutely superb pictures of some beautiful models.  Very many thanks for sharing them with us John and showing us just how much the model boat world is alive and well in Ortario.

Great to see ggeorge's tug on the water for the first time, that really is an amazing model.

Thanks very much. I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures.
Marine modeling may not be large in Ontario, but it is very much alive with some truly excellent modelers.

One of your photographs showed a 20mm Oerlikon gun. There I was trying to work out where and how, the two 'shoulder rests' were connected to the gun.
Mayhem (and Old Iron) to the rescue AGAIN - thanks.

Glad to be of help. Perhaps these additional pics may be of assistance.

Thats some steady hand you have with the camera John. Excellent pictures from your club. Still trying to persuade SWMBO for another trip up to your area, but if you nab a wandering wolf I'm sure she'll be in....don't worry we'll be up.

Thanks Robert, but I think the camera is due far more credit than me. These new electronic cameras can make one look good.
I don't know about wolves, but we do have a couple of coyote packs that hang around the area. Get to spot them from time to time and hear them yipping far more often.
