I have an acrylic? cover on my old world record player that
has split.

I've glued it and used wet and dry to remove the join line but need to polish
out the marks.

Any suggestions for the polish?

metal polish will work. Fareclea is a good product. T-cut will do it at a push.

Any 'mild' abrasive will work, the 'milder' the better.  When you get real close to perfect, talccum(sp) powder does well (and if you're that close to perfect, quit!).

Very un PC is fag ash mixed with spit and applied with a finger !! I was advised to use this on my first sextant arc by the old salts 'cos it was mild enough not to rub the graduations away (Brasso was too fearce) but cleaned the brass up a treat. If you don't smoke ask a grown up to save theirs. Only joking

Being a cautious type of chap i shall try a mixture of the above,
ash/talc/brasso/rouge...now what should i call it? 

Many thanks, the plastic is quite soft, (at least i imagined it would be harder)
so I may give the brasso a miss or at least try the alternatives first.
