I have some sad news.
Unfortunately, Dereck Stamper, Bridlington Model Boat Society's Life President died on Tuesday 21st November following a very long illness. His funeral is on Wednesday 27th. Dereck was well known in the modelling world throughout the 60's/70's and 80's and was a keen modeller from the early 50's often seen at the small pond on the north seafront sailing his self built boats. Dereck was a founder member of the Bridlington club and along with his wife Marjorie, was instrumental in organising the first Model and Crafts show at the Spa Royal Hall, Bridlington in 1981 and ran for 25 years enabling the club to save sufficient funds to build and develop it's own lake and grounds which opened in 1988. Without Dereck's foresight and enthusiasm I doubt that our lake would have been built.
Not only have we lost our President, we have also lost a good friend. Maybe some of you more 'senior' sailors might remember him and join us in sending our condolences to his wife and family.
