Hi:
I've spent the last week or so ploughing through this website, and learned a great deal in the process - as well as having a chuckle at some of the comments on the forums!
I'm an expat Scot, living in Brittany. So far my modelling efforts have been limited to a couple of puffers built years ago out of brown sticky tape, powered with six volt motors, which voyaged on the boating pond which once graced the promenade in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
Over the past few years I've contented myself with 1250 scale merchant ships, but have now taken a quantum leap and bought a TID tug kit from Mobile Marine Models, basically because I have a mate who owns a pond which is currently unoccupied except for a couple of woebegone ducks...
I've had the boat  a week, and have spent most of that time gazing at it like a rabbit caught in the headlights - for me it's going to be a major operation - in fact, it scares the hell out of me!
My better half says I've bitten off more than I can chew, so just to spite her I'm going to build it properly.
I'd ask in advance for your patience; I know precious little about this sort of construction, and my knowledge of radio control is limited to switching from the Light Programme to the Home Service.
In terms of stupid questions, I fully expect to set standards that will never be equalled.....

Just out of interest Brandane, which part of Brittany are you from? I usually visit the area a couple of times a year at least.

Hi Colin:
St Nicolas du Pelem, in Cote D'Armor, between Corlay and Rostrenen. Shut between 5pm and 8am, and all day Sunday.  Let me know when you're coming across and perhaps we could meet up.

Welcome - apart from the help you will get here, don't hesitate to call Bryan at MMM - you'll find he's very easy to talk to and willing to give help and advice.

Thanks to you all for your kind words.
Barrie, I spoke to Bryan at MMM today - as you said, very helpful and encouraging and full of good advice.
Still at the planning stage - trying to clear outstanding work on a 1250 model of the Brisbane Star of 1937. I hope to continue with the 1250 stuff in parallel with the tug - given the slight differences in scale, I hope to avoid any confusion between the two!
