Dinky and Corgi toys restoration.
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:05:16 pm »

When I was a kid back in the late 60's early 70's, I started painting all my dinky and corgi cars.  Not a good idea and I've come to very much regret it over the years. I must have 100+ in the loft ranging from early 60's vehicles to early 70's. When I was about 16, I realised it was better to keep them in their boxes as collectables so must have about 10 dinky and corgi buses plus about 15 matchbox yesteryear cars in their original boxes.

But, I've a number of coaches, trucks and cars I'd love to have professionally restored. Now I know that costs and they'll never be worth as much as if they were in original mint condition but I think it may be worth it to have the od one or two done.

I could do it myself but I have enough trouble finding time to build RC models never mind restoring my old toys.

I've searched the net butcannot find many actual professional restorers, plenty of 'here's one I've restored' sites but not what Im looking for. So, does anyone know of a couple of professional dinky and corgi toy restorers?

HI There I don't know of any one who specialize in restoring dinky car. You could look in the back pages of railway modeler trade section and there are people who build and paint loco kits might be worth giving them a call .

Could you not separate the die cast part, strip the paint off and respray using an airbrush, primer and Testor Metaliser paints?

I personally would do nothing to them, knowing what material these models are made from, Mazac you could end up with a pile of dust. They also will be worth more in any condition than one that is restored, because you will not be able to match the original colours.
Leave them alone and enjoy them in any condition.
