Strange Coupling Question
« on: October 27, 2010, 10:27:10 am »

Hi All

I recently started my Hermann Marwede build and I am installing the motors.

The couplings I have are black, and in 3 pieces.

Problem is I don't know how to use them.
The 2 end pieces look like top hats without the rim,and the centre piece look
like a dumbell.

The centre shaft is too long, and I need mto know how to use the couplings, otherwise I
will end up cutting the inner shafts to length.

Hope someone can help, here is a picture.

Thanks

Pretty straight forward really - the two black 'top hats' go on each of the shafts - tighten on with grub screw - with the 'dogbone' inbetween transfering the drive. Obviously I am  assuming you've got the right size drive cups to fit the relevant shafts?
Shortening the dogbone is not an option as you would remove the hex' shape at the end that mates with the drive cup, either mover the motor slightly forward or shorten the propshaft - try and get the two shafts aligned as accurately as possible before fixing.

Thanks grasshopper

The shaft and motor is lined up OK,but I am going to have to cut the inner shaft as it is too
long,and has too much movement.

Now the question is,what do I cut it with?

I would recommend a disk cutter in a mini drill.
A hacksaw or wire cutters may bend the shaft.

Thanks Martin

Thats exactly what I did.

Grinding wheel in my Minicraft, and away it went.

Pleased to say, first one is done, will secure the motor before tackling the second one.
