WHEELHOUSE DECALS
« on: August 12, 2009, 12:35:36 pm »

Can anyone point out a good source for DECALS.

I am looking for wheelhouse decals ie Compass Telegraph etc etc 1/12 - 1/24th although they can be bigger so I can scale them down.

Also anything in Brass photo etch would do to.....................

Hope you can help and thanks.............

Cheers

Cliff, I have a couple of large scale models of a binacle and a telegraph so I took the pictures below, rescaled them and printed them off before using them on my steamer binacle and telegraph models.  They are 1/35th on that model but as you say you can rescale them to whatever size you want.  If you need better quality than the attachments then let me know.

BECC produce Compass Decals, Dials and Bezels. ***moderated-advertising***

tri_stand

The gentleman was actually looking for telegraph dials...

We've been selling the BECC range for the past 7 years, and I haven't seen one of those yet?

Want to display a realistic looking chart on your chart table?????

Select a suitable bit of coastline from a  redundant roadmap, remove a 'chart-size' section  and glue to the chart table top. Looks very realistic when viewed thru the bridge window. To complement same, tightly roll another similar piece of map (with coastline /sea visible) and place adjacent to 'in use' chart :-))

Go on, try it. You've nought to lose - other than the defacement of an old road map

On a similar vein, I get my 'charts' from printing a road map from my Times Route Planner, and cut out a section of chart table size, with land and sea visible, and cover with matt varnish once stuck to the chart table. I do like your idea of a partially rolled section close by, might try that on the current build, thanks for the tip!

I sourced a couple of real charts of the North Sea area, scaled them, printed them off and put them on my bridge chart table.  As you suggest a coat of matt varnish helps to 'fix' them and waterproof them but they look absolutely spot on.  I also did the same with a chart of Europe and stuck it to the rear bulkhead of the bridge which looks very effective.  To make the most of the charts they are 'held down' by a lantern, which lights them up via a grain of wheat bulb stuck inside.

Some nice ideas there for the ol' chart table etc, nice one.

Thanks to Bunkerbarge as ever he came up with the goods straight away but as someone else said, compass decals etc are all available but no one seems to have
the Ships Telegraph decals in their offerings...............obviously not required on a large scale I guess.

The one Bunkerbarge supplied is perfect and again is now available to other forum members to do with as they see fit...................thank you.

If anyone else comes across anything though still post it for all to see ok.

I have nearly completed a ships telegraph, I have the base done and polished.....the column done and polished and the Telegraph itself too.............I have also turned up the
Handles which will then screw into the Telegraphs Indicator which is next to do then I will fit the assembly together so that i have a working telegraph that moves.

Its been an interesting project and a one off for sure but if it turns out ok I may just make a few more just in case anyone else wants one.......we shall see.

Thanks again all...................

Hi Folks, just thought I would show a couple of images of the completed Telegraphs.

The Large one in the middle is going to be a working telegraph to sit on my desk or workbench and play with but I may just make a few
for those special projects that come along now and again.

The smallest is 2.1/4" Tall and the Tallest 2.3/4" high.

Nice Decal now fitted to.................wicked and thanks

In full size how do these things work? Is it a bowden cable down to an indicator in the engine room, electronic, or shafts and gears?

I've seen small chain (as per bicycle) on smaller vessels it compromises of a double run of chain to form a loop.
