About all you have to do is ask Martin what my other hobbies are, but to make a long story short:  I love camping, doing artwork, collecting miniature kerosene lamps, carpentry, tinkering with electronics, writing and most recently, taking care of other people's dogs.

The doggy daycare is more of a fun thing, than a job.  I love dogs, and when we lost our last one about 5 years ago, we swore we wouldn't have another one.  But, then about 2 years ago, my wife says to me, "As much as you love dogs, why don't you start a doggy daycare?", I thought, why not?  You have all the advantages of having one for awhile, but then they, like grandkids, go home.

I also like making miniature anything.  My most recent project was a 1/16 scale lighthouse to go along with my 1/16 scale lifeboat.  Martin can attest to this,as he has pics on his site of the build.  I also made a part for a fellow modeler, since he couldn't get the part from the kit manufacturer, as it was discontinued.

I know I'm forgetting some of my hobbies, some that have been lying dormant, collecting dust in some obscure place in the basement or the attic.

Enough for now,
The Crazy Yank

Dave.. It has a Stromberg downdraught carb which I lovingly refer to as 'the bucket' which feeds the iron head 6pot ohv oilwell under the bonnet.

That makes about as much sense as the US National anthem (or British for that matter) being played throughout Iraq!

Needless to say I have 'engine blindness' - I only have to open my bonnet and the whole lump just blurs into a single confusing mass of metal, plastic and rubber. I love the AA ;D

Dave, I am just like you when it comes to looking under the bonnet of a modern vehicle and you know what, its the best way to be mate. Nowadays, I call the RAC cos there' bu--er all you can do about it if it stops working anymore, I don,t even recognise some of the bits they put in there. I am a sad case now because I know every single nut and bolt of this 50 year old car. Just for laughs, my brother and I sometimes have a little competition by dipping our hands into a box of scrap generated from the restoration and pull out a tiny component say, a pin, screw, spring or whatever and yell 'name that part'! So far, I've always got it right.. wot a sad sod!

Hi all, been off-line with PC-itis forthe last few days, so I've missed this thread - and about five pages of "unread posts".

I've got lots of other hobbies - vidiography, die-cast cars, classical music, poetry, reading etc, but my real passion is Austin Seven cars - not the Mini, but the real ones from 1922-39.

The pictures below show a bit of 1:1 scale model building (the body for my 1929 Special) and the delivery earlier this week of my new toy, a 1933 RP Saloon.

I have two hobbies, apart from model boats.....

A dog...which takes me for walks and ....a wife who has to be obeyed. I guess the last is not a hobby, more a punishment!

Hello Rick, a fellow "traveller' so to to speak. If only I had bought an Austin seven. I think these cars are lovely and I'm sure I would have finished building one of these much sooner than a Sheerline. That remark in no way underestimates the amount of effort which goes into any restoration. Regardless of size (which does'nt matter) you have to be a jack of all trades to re-create  old vehicles such as these. The pictures tell it all so all credit to you.
My only contact with the 'Seven' was an engine which was fitted to an old motor launch which I restored many years ago. It would start at the drop of a hat but did not take too kindly to a sustained load and would just die periodically. probably due to piston crown temperatures soaring. I  am  now slowly restoring a 16foot clinker motor boat which is powered by a Morris 8 (Vedette) sidevalve engine. I swapped an old Jaguar for this boat and SHE who must be obeyed  was non chuffed about that!
The biggest problem I have is too many dreams and not enough time to fulfill them. Oh for a nine to five job!!

Good luck with your re-build....  Regards... Chris

I have to also confess to being a car nut when I'm not building or sailing model boats or on a nice bumpy river doing a spot of canoeing.

My beast is a 1974 Aston Martin V8, and it's old enought that I can recognise all the bits under the bonnet, and even know what most of them do? :o though I must admit that if I need to anything with the four twin choke webber carbs ( one barrel for each pot !) I will instantly surrender and send for an expert.? Biggest task I have had with it in six years of ownership has been changing? the limited slip diff last year when the clutch plates on one side collapsed? :-\? fortunately it only took me an afternoon to do the swap for a reconditioned unit - oh and ?850? :'( :'(

She has a high smile factor, and on a tour round Scotland last year after a two week sailing holiday from Oban round the Orkneys and back, she returned an average of 16 mpg (and one speeding ticket? :-\ :-\ )

That is probably one of the most beautiful cars ever designed.. a hand built icon with a business like snout, a vehicle with real presence and a smile factor of 100%. My son is a plumbing and heating engineer working for himself and I have ordered him to buy me an Aston when he makes his first million.. I am not a mercenary old "xxxxx" though.. I told him one with holes in it will do and I will spend the rest of my life rebuilding it. Even if they pull the plug on the oil supply before its finished, I will get it towed by a traction engine... just so I can sit in it and watch the scenery go by.
10 out of 10 for taste Mr Aston!!

Between Working 9 to 5, tinkering with models and doing my bit with our local Coastguard SAR team plus having a wife, there's not a lot of time left to do anthing else.  ;D

According to my other better half I have far too many hobbies!  I love motorsport, especially at grass-roots level.  I used to do a bit of off road racing, even trialled once or twice (abysmally!), now I just take pictures.  Love r/c anything: cars, trucks, tanks etc. as well as boats.  Having 2 sons heavily into football, it is muggins here who gets to training half an hour early and leaves half an hour late after putting up and then taking down the goals...and there's helping out at Cubs and Scouts...and trying to put together a web-site...and endless DIY (Which in our house stands for 'Done It Yet?', often said in quite a loud voice!).

Here's a couple of racing pictures from last year: a sunny day in Somerset and a not quite so sunny day on Salisbury Plain!

Hi all, when I'm not spending my tiime building model boats I live to fish!? I live in Washington State, U.S.A.? This year I had a new home built over-looking one of my favorite rivers to fish in.? I live about 10? minutes away from four of the best salmon, steel head and sturgeon rivers in North America.? I fish rain or shine and I do fish year around.? I always make sure that I have time for my boats. here are some photos of me and my two oldest kids with chinook salmon.

Well i've just sold my last bike , which unless the NHS can come up with a miracle op for my back will be my last. I've owned 4 bikes over the years started off with a Honda NSR125F which I only ran till I passed my test. Upgraded to a Yamaha XJ600 ( pre-Diversion version ) which I owned for 5 years before selling to a mate due to buying a house. Next bike was 7 years ago which was a custom hard-tail chopper based on a Z750 Kwack frame with a Suzuki GSXR750 engine in it. Didn't like the handling( or better described as didn't handle at all ) so sold it to a guy from Newcastle. Last bike was a Tango Orange Honda CB900fb, a 1981 W reg bike a proper street rocket lol.

Quite easy, have you got them on your computer, if so,on the left hand side if your post, you will see, Additional Options, click on that, then press browse, it then goes to your computer and you click on the picture you want to post, if you want a second one, click on, more attachments in small letters at the side, and do the same again. ron h

My main hobbies are avoiding gardening, DIY, shopping, in fact anything mundane - so I can spend more time on my boats !

My other hobby is genealogy, I started building a Clyde Puffer to get me away from the PC and record offices. I thought it might get me away from the DIY but it has not happened yet, just like school "must try harder".

It is a Mount Fleet Models Sealight Puffer, no pictures at the moment.I think it is a fairly good kit but I had problems with the hull, it was not the heightat the rear It was supposed to be, so I have had to build up the edge to make it right so i have a lot of sanding to do. When it is done and undercoated will post pictures
