New Forum menber - Introduction
« on: August 16, 2009, 01:49:36 pm »

Hello Everyone,

I've just joined the Forum, and as this is my first post, I thought I'd introduce myself.

I reside in North London, but am a 'Geordie-in-Exile', originally hailing from North Shields. As seems usual with the modelling demographic these days I won't see 50 again.  By some miracle I am still gainfully employed so don't get enough time for either building or sailing these days.

My main area of interest is scale/classic sail, and it all started with a birthday gift  of a Triang yacht round about 1960, which was sailed at Tynemouth lake, wish I still had it as they're worth a few bob these days, very collectable. I started 'real' model boating building a couple of Aerokits, remember them!, and then building from plans, remember the 'MAP Plans Handbook', and I've been at it, off and on, ever since.

I'm still getting to grips with the Forum, so I hope this post turns out alright!

Cheers,

Mike

Good god, a Geordie in North London, they're getting nearer. :o

Welcome Mike , hope you enjoy your stay, there's shed loads of Geordie type people on here so you shouldn't find any problems with translation.

We like photos on here of all builds and even finished boats.

Thanks for the welcome to the Forum guys.

My current project, a Caldercraft 'Celia', is at the basin trials stage. On the change is as good as a rest principle I decided on this subject as a complete change from my usual sticks n'string scale sail interests. It's a Caldercraft kit of a small inshore trawler at 1/16 scale which I acquired some years ago, and I don't believe it is currently available any more. I think it came out in the mid to late 1980's, and it's fair to say that the kit was showing it's age slightly.

Still I've really enjoyed the build, my first using mainly styrene/ABS, and with a bit of fettling I got there in the end. I do have some photos, but I'll have to take some time to read the threads about photos on the Forum and resizing first!

Cheers,

Mike.
