Stuart engine

Hi,
I bought the Stuart engine and center flue boiler in the 1970s for a tug project but due to circumstances it never got off the ground.

I notice that these engines are now quite valuable, this one has only run for a few minutes since I got it.

It seems silly not to use it so what would be the best model/size to put it in.

I'm guessing its the 10v (3/4 bore and stroke) it would suit a launch hull around 4 ft long and would push it along nicely.  :-))

Unless the fittings on the boiler are very big , the boiler looks on the small side have you got any dimensions for  it.? look's like it has a mechanical oiler as well, that is handy

The boiler is 165mm long and 90mm wide and was sold as a compatible pair when bought direct from Stuart Turner in 1964. So it's 45 years old now.

The picture has been resized to fit the site and lost it's scale.

I added the mechanical oiler later.

It seems that the grub screw on the eccentric has come loose and the engine has lost it's timing so i need so find out how to re-time the stroke.

Are there any commercial kits that are suitable for it.

Hi Sailmaker,

Lovely little plant the 10V- three things to point out-

1- The safety valve on the boiler is a fantastic, however it HAS to be serviced- it is covered in grime and will need the springs replacing, possibly new ball too.
2- The engine will need the reversing kit to be used in a boat, failing that a reversing gearbox on the propshaft.
3- Timing diagrams are available to download off ST's website.

Look forward to seeing it in a lovely open launch so we can see that lovely engine... :-))
