Flak Trap boats....
« on: September 25, 2009, 09:12:32 am »

Morning chaps,

I'm looking for any snippets of info, pictures, drawings, anything at all to do with the U-Flak subs of WW2, in particular U-673 or U-441....any help much appreciated.

Hi Rich, you may have already tried here, but in case you have,nt type in     German U-boots in your tool bar, when it opens, scroll down to     u-boat.net-u-boat types      when this opens look in the left hand column,u-boat types,
there were 7 Flak boats

Been there Wull, got what they have to offer...which wasn't much. The Germans didn't want to give away too much information on the Flak boats, it seems.

Hi Rich....have you had the pleasure of attending [being a passanger] in a real sub under water?....I have & didn't like it at all in an HMAS Oberon Class ?  %% %% %% %% at my work place

Especially when I had a few engineers & techos attempting to simulate the OMC [one man controll] of the vessel   ;D :embarrassed: %)

As any naval officer or rating will acknowledge .....simply you have a task & it must be completed within the scope & directives of the Act  :police:

Are there any real ex-submariners here on Mayhem?

PS........I was just standing in on a night shift ....[for an Under Water Weapons Foreman]   <*< {:-{ ;D....Derek

Hi, try the Naval Museum at Laboe, I suppose the idea was ok but they were not particularly
successful as the Sunderlands used to circle out of range while calling up reinforcements therefore
making the sub dive. See also" U-Boats under the Swastika" by Mallmann Showell, the first book of
the name page 107/108

You are quite correct Nem, the idea was sound enough but the Allies quickly learned how to counteract the boats. U-441 did do a bit of damage to a Liberator(I think it was)before getting shot up pretty badly herself, and having to return to port for repairs.

She was un-converted back to a standard Type V11c after that...shame really, I think the Flak boats were a good looking boat. Apart from the fact that they were unwieldy once submerged due to all that extra weight, and a crash dive took too long.
