I want to fit led bulbs on my new build as i did with the last one but due to being an idiot i cant remember where i got them from  :embarrassed: The electrics will be run on 6 volt and i seem to remember i had to join 2 bulbs together somehow to reduce the power getting to them  :o And ideas would be greatly appreciated , Regards Andy  :-))

Suggest you add this site to your favourites list......even gives you the colour codes for the correct resistors.

Maplins, Rapid Electronics,RS, all useful suppliers and quote the If (Forward Current) in mA (milliAmps) V max (Maximum voltage required by the LED. and you know Vf (Supply Voltage of your boat)

Just enter those facts and the number of leds you want to use on the above site.
Suggest you do separate calculations for Red/White/Green/Blue/Orange....as they all have different characteristics.

Have fun

Hi andy

Roughly speaking, you allow 20mA current through the LED at the quoted forward voltage (often 2.7 - 3 volts) and then calculate The resisto needed to drop the remaining voltage at 20mA.

If that's not clear then purely by chance, there's an article in this month's Model Boats which explains things better and gives a few website URLs

Cheers

Umi_Ryuzuki who is a forum member does some excellent LED navigation, floodlamps etc

She might be over the other side of the pond but I expect she'll take your £s
