Painting new model.

I purchased a Darnells Type 21 U Boat about 20 Yrs ago and it has taken 18 years to get it finished(lack of time). I am in the initial stages of painting it. Can anyone give me advice. What primer does one use and any other tips.
has any other member completed a Darnells model and has any tips.

We all use  'Red Oxide' spray paint from Halfords. It has good grip and can be covered in any other type of paint for an excellent finish

Give the surface a good "keying" first, thoroughly wash and leave to dry overnight BEFORE even shaking the first can of paint!  :-))

Use Grey Primer to achieve a good surface to apply your chosen top coat, if you wash that over with a heavy salt water solution prior to painting - let it dry first - & gently rub the boat over with a soft cloth when dry, the paint will flake.
