i am currently building(its been put on hold for a few months but thats a whole other story) a buccaneer. scale 1:36 and my props work out to be about 100mm dia so some rough calcs tell me you would need propers 70-75mm dia.  The robbee motor is more(lots) than powerfull enough to handle these props.

1:36, thats a large model :)

Sounds good, I guess I will be doing some more investigating and measuring when I get the model. Really looking forward to this build, will probably be a long haul though, but I got all winter.

If anyone has done a 1:50 Buccaneer, I would love to get some tips here and there.
Not really sure if I'm making it a true copy of the original yet, making a design of your own is fun, but I really like the way she looks.

Seen most of the Deadliest catch episodes, some nice looking boats there :)

yes at 1:36 she is huge.  I feel i have bitten off more than a can chew so to speak.  I cant do much more work on her until i get a suitable workshop sorted out as i have just moved into a small flat.

I have lots of photos of models and the real ship + sister ships archived away somewhere i could share if its any  help.

Sorry, to late...  :-(

A drawing of the ABEILLE is available at a french journal publisher.
But certainly it's no a kit at all, you have to bild your hull yourself.

However, decision  is made.

IMHO the POWER 1000 are a bit oversized ;-)
(and out of stock at robbe!)

Let me show you my favorites:
http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/product_info.php/info/p2893_B-hler-BB-Power-f-r-Gro-modelle--12-Volt.html/XTCsid/0b9b671ebfee2024dd501a9a6ed612bb

They will power my ABEILLE  and the X-BOW with 2x 70/75mm props.
Think your UT 720 will come with a weigth of ~25kg,  this 2 motors should handle it easily at a common current of ~5-6A ...

Hi all.

Yep, in to the deep end it is, building from scratch, except the hull that is...
The Bühler BB Power motors look nice, alot cheaper, and probably more then enough power. Then again, I really do want my model to be powerful, not necessarily scale.

Looking forward to getting the hull, so I can actually see what I'm doing, get my hands on it.

Will try to keep a log when I get started :)

Being a newbie, there will be many stupid questions, just so you all know...

Will I have to build a framework inside the fiberglass hull, to make it more sturdy and stable?

Hi :)

Hull and plans are on the way from Germany :)
Really looking forward to getting started.

Now for ordering a radio and all that goes with it, any recommendations? At first I will try to keep costs down, so I will only need a 3 channel.

Hi :)

The hull has arrived, and most of the running gear is ordered.
The one thing I havent been able to aqquire, is suitable rudders.
So, if anyone can recommend suitable rudders for a UT 720 1:50 Pacific Buccaneer, I would really appreciate it!

Ah well, no suitable rudders out there then I guess ;)

Can anyone help me with a method to fabricate rudders then? Material, size, how to attatch etc..

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

I made the rudders for my Anglian Sovereign from a sandwich of 1.5mm and 3mm ply. 1.5 either side of the 3mm. The 3mm had a L slot cut into it to accept a piece of suitably bent brass rod which was the rudder post. The ply was then sanded to the required streamlined profile. Dims were taken from the drawings I have and scaled for the model.

This might help making the rudders.
