Prop Shop
« on: November 22, 2006, 09:28:39 pm »

The editors column in the Model Engineer for 10-23 November advises that Swan Precision Castings had acquired Prop Shop and the business will relocate from Malvern to Swan's Banbury works.

Anyone know any more details??

Only that I placed a commercial order with Prop shop over a month ago, was told "next week" still nothing.
 Buyer beware.
 Paul...

All I can say is that I gave up with PropShop a couple of years ago... great props, but their service is hopeless!!

I wish you luck Paul...

I think we've already been there and done that to death, gentlemen. The question was if anyone knows any more details about the sale of this business.

I ordered two props from Prop Shop at Warwick, and had them within the week. I have allways had prompt service.
Any way no mention was made of a take over.

Hi Colin

I phoned Propshop last week and have just had their catalogue.

They have recently been on annual shut-down at Swan Foundry and I phoned for my copy last week.

Response was immediate and I received it the following day.   O0 O0

This is very  good news. Simon's props are the best I've ever seen and used, but let's just say that his organisational skills weren't quite on a par with his practical ones......
I hope he's still involved with the revamped business because he's a nice bloke and a clever one too, and they will definitely need his experience on a technical level.
I'd like to wish Swan Castings all the best with their latest acquisition.

So lets give the new owners a chance, lets just see how they perform.
I assume as they have bought the business they will want to give a good service.
Surely this old thread has just about finished then.

Prop Shop make excellent props and so I gave Simon a call this week when I needed a 70mm job which the last list available quoted as £19. All went well until I was given the new price of £32 plus an explanation that the the new management, Swan Group, had revised the pricing.
Now I wouldn't mind paying a couple of pounds extra but a 168% increase was a step too far. As I pointed out, if Swan Group were going to stick to their pricing, then Prop Shop could wave goodbye to its custom as it was about to wave goodbye to me. There are other suppliers to fill the gap.  :((
